TOBS Traditional

Bought a puck of TOBS Traditional from Westcoastshaving, and gave it a swirl this morning. I need to try it for a week before I can give it my final verdict.

However, I noticed that I only got two passes out of my Simpsons Duke 2 rather than the usual 3 to 4 I get out my other soaps and creams. I also noticed that after I finished shaving, my skin felt a lot drier than it typically does with other soaps. The shave itself wasn't bad: reasonably close and comfortable. But I was a lot more careful with the razor, because the lather wasn't as slick or didn't offer as much cushion.

I'm hoping that a little more experience with the soap may remedy this, but I would like to know if anyone else has had similar experiences.

Never tried this one but here's my take:

1) Sometimes soaps have a "coating" on them that you need to get through before you get to the good stuff and can make good lather. I had this problem with a puck of CADE. Try washing your hands with the soap a few times or using it in the shower to get rid of the coating.

2) If you are getting "dry face" after the shave, there are two possibilities. You either had too much concentrated soap on your face during the shave (didn't add enough water), or you had too thin lather which caused your razor to take more skin off.

3) Try making several practice lathers with the soap before shaving with it again to get the soap to water ratio right. Every soap is a little different.

Thanks. Very helpful. Didn't know about the "coating." I thought that was really only an issue with vintage soaps.

Appreciate the thoughts.
