TOBS Sandalwood Shaving Cream

I had ordered some TOBS sandalwood off of westcoastshaving.com after reading favourable reviews. Being new to the world of wet shaving, the only sandalwood cream I had ever smelled was AOS, which I loved.

I waited eagerly for my cream (and aftershave gel) to arrive, and it finally came in. I ripped open the box, opened the cream and took a big sniff...boy, was I disappointed. I had read that people said that the smell was too pungent/perfumey, and now I know exactly what they meant. I have to say, IMO, AOS sandalwood is 100 times better.

After my initial disappointment, I went and had a shower and decided to give the product a try, seeings how I had already spent $20 on it. I started whipping up a lather and was pretty impressed. Got a nice thick lather with minimal product. I applied it to my face and began shaving my beard (3 days growth). In the end, I had a great shave. The cream did an amazing job...enough to make me want to keep the product and just put up with the scent.

And so I know better for next time, what other Sandalwood products smell more like AOS and less like TOBS?

I love Aos sandlewood was considering trying Tobs thanks for the post saved me $20!! I,ve tried EJ sandlewood it lathers good but a weak scent. I bought some Gft skinfood sandlewood kinda smelled perfummy if its any indication of the cream i'm out.

Mayby AOS is top dog!! Interested to hear what others like

I like the smell, but if you are expecting AOS Sandalwood - you will be disappointed. TOBS is more like a "spicy" sandalwood-ish scent.

Hmmm... I love them both. It's TOBS' Jermyn Street scent I'm not a huge fan of (but don't necessarily dislike, either).

Of course YMMV, I love the scent of the TOBS Sandalwood Shaving Cream that my SWMBO gave me in April. It gives a creamy lather and contributes to a great shave.

I really like the smell of T&H Sandalwood cream...TOBS not so much. It's not awful, and the performance is great, but the scent just seems to linger too long for me. I suppose that would be a good thing if I loved the scent, but it's just ok to me.

accord to insomniac....sure....it's spicy sandalwood.....and in the scent there is a bit of incense....

The TOBS is VERY perfumey...honestly if you like the scent of AOS sandalwood, then stick with that. If I had the chance, I'd switch TOBS for AOS in a heart beat.

Having said that, the product itself is fantastic. Lathers very well.

My opinion also. Great product, a very effective shave cream, but the scent! Not really just awful, but a scent you can tire of easily. Harsh, perfumey and one note.

Tobs sandalwood was my first cream that I got when I started DE shaving. Performance is great, but like others are saying, the scent is only OK.

Love the AOS scent but performance goes to TOBS every time. The TOBS is my daily user and a tub of this stuff lasts me over four months and I shave everyday. AOS just can't match the lather and protection ability in my eyes, but it does smell great!
