Thinking about trading my Kingsley Pure Badger Tortoise for a thinner, longer brush

Hey all,

After using my Kingsley Pure Badger Tortoise (with silver tipped handle), I think I am going to search for a badger brush that is thinner, and has a much longer handle.

The Tortoise, below, isn't so bad when dry - but when it's wet, it's gigantic!

The Tortoise is rated at "Bristle Loft: 48mm
Knot Dia: 22mm" - but which measurement actually measures the 'puffiness' at the widest point? I want to use that as a reference point when i look for my new one.

I was going to post in the market, but I haven't reached the minimum requirements yet. As soon as I do, i'll post it there.

Any suggestions on a new brush? I would like to trade it, as opposed to buying an additional...

I am also tempted to get this sample blade pack HERE
, but I'll try and hold off until one pops up in the marketplace...

Thanks,

Matt!

You mean the bloom diameter? There's no measurement. It has to do with two things. How densely packed the knot is and how deep it is set (the reverse of loft, less loft with the same knot means set deeper).

Denser packed, large lofted brushes will bloom more and be more "poofed" in the center.

Also the knot shape (fan or bulb) impacts it too. Fans bloom more like an open accordian fan, bulbs bloom like well bulbs.

If you want a badger with less bloom, then I'd recommend you get a custom one set deep. A 18-20mm Fan Finest in a long handle set at about 40-42mm loft would be ideal for what you want I think.

I doubt you could do a straight trade though. Materials costs for something like that would be $12-15 for a used handle ($20-50 if you're getting one hand turned) and $17-22 for the knot. Plus the labor of assembly and shipping, you're looking at $40+
