The Taylor Swift effect

Social media is flooded with the fact that Taylor and Travis are dating and what not.

“Swifties” can’t get enough and NFL aficionados are growing tired that people are “now” putting attention to the game without caring for it.

My take on this is…the guys in charge behind the curtains (managers, public relations, accountants, etc) kudos on them…they are making bank!

Not only sales for Chiefs paraphernalia and gains from the media. But also on the Taylor Swift side keeping the artist on the public eye and pretty sure taking a cut of all the money to be made!

Love involved or not…that’s how you do it!

Dull yet interesting
The fascination with celebrities never ceases to ... well ... fascinate me.
Because I don't get it. 🤷‍♂️
Taylor Swift is undeniably smokin' hot. But I find her music uninspiring, self-absorbed and boring.
Travis Kelce is arguably the best tight end in the National Football League. But I find their alleged romance uninspiring, self-absorbed and boring.

People go nuts of Celebrities, I sort of do no get it.

I have had opportunity to meet many in my career, many were classmates in my H/S.

Bottom line is they do everything normal people do.

Many are really nice down to earth people, other are total jerks.

Only difference is they have money, and many are unhappy people.

First off, I'm NOT a Taylor fan. In any sense of the word. If I were watching a football game that continued to focus on her being in attendance and not on the game, I'd be pissed. But I'd also be pissed if they did this for anyone not involved in the event I'm attempting to watch. I'm ok with mentioning "Oh hey, look who's here tonight!", but then get back to the actual event I'm trying to watch.

Some years ago I was in the Nashville airport and some guy in front of me caused a stir. The TSA folks were acting odd and pointing, nodding their heads. The guy had his back to me, brown t-shirt, longish hair. So after getting my belt and shoes back on I thought I'd try to find him and see if I recognized him. Not likely since my music is classic rock from the 60's but you never know.

As I was walking down the terminal I would look left and right as I walked past the gates. 'Lo and behold there he was sitting alone with his back to me. So I walked around to the front of him and approached him. He looked up at me and I had never seen him before. So I told him, "I was right behind you going through security and you made quite a stir - what is your name?" He grinned, stuck his hand out and said, "I'm Keith Urban." As we shook hands I said, "Nice to meet you..." We only spoke a moment and I left him be. I may not have heard of him but everyone else seemed to so I figured he wants some alone time.

I will tell you this - the nicest, most considerate fellow you will meet. Truly a gentleman and it was clear he would have visited more if I had stood there but out of respect I moved on.

Yes, I have read about him.

Both Armor and Swift were instrumental in bringing good quality meat products to the masses at affordable prices.

Thank you Mr Swift!

We think alike.

I first thought Taylor Swift was the breakfast meat selections at the old Holiday Inn smorgasbords.

But that Spam thread over in the Mess Hall has piqued my interest.

So I'm not a Swiftie (NOT a SWIFTY, as she has trademarked "Swiftie", you may see where this is going) but I have a huge amount of respect for Taylor Swift.

I am going to put forth an opinion that may not be popular and hopefully tapdances around offending some members.

Some thoughts...

1) The NFL and the Kansas City Chiefs can thank Taylor Swift and her fans for a big bump in interest, sales and revenue. It's a bit laughable if anyone believes that the "man behind the curtain" is responsible for these increases. I don't believe there has been a huge influx of NFL fans helping to drive sales of TS tix and paraphernalia. I find it amusing that the take is "keeping the artist in the public eye". IMHO it's the other way around. Like it or not a whole lot more people know who Travis Kelce is (and care a little bit) now because he and Taylor are dating. Much more so than Chiefs fans who know recognize Taylor Swift.

2) Although you may care less for TS, keep in mind that her Eras tour was estimated to have contributed 5 billion dollars to the US economy. Around 140 million here in Denver. (Minus 1 dollar from David Mueller, class act that he is, Google it) That's way more than Kelce and I chipped in. I don't know about you, but I think that's awesome and newsworthy. Particularly for a 33 year old woman. We're talking USA at the moment. Her appeal is global, not so much NFL.

3) She is a great role model for young girls and young women. She believes and promotes the empowerment of women, she is very generous with charities, her employees and her fans, she has a tremendous business acumen, and she manages to come off pretty much scandal free. Did I mention that, while not to my taste, she is a very talented and respected musician/performer?

That's my .02. You may not be a Swiftie yourself, but she matters. Quite a bit actually. I am glad she is in the world and I imagine she's going to be remembered as having made a huge impact on the world for many years to come. If you choose not to care or notice that’s on you. YMMV.
