Wow!
When I was learning this DE shaving stuff, I tried at least a couple dozen blades, and Sharks (Super Chrome, in case there is more than one variety, I don't know) were one of them. I remember being favorably disposed to them, like I was to most blades, actually, the Astra, red Personna, Crystals ... I got a decent shave with most of them, and probably could not tease out small differences at that stage of experience anyway. Haven't touched one in ages.
I settled on the Gillette Black after hosting the Great Spetsnaz/Ninja faceoff and bought about a hundred and a half of them and never looked back. Once I find something I like, I'm less fascinated with experimenting. The Blacks are great blades, close and comfortable. But this time when I went from my Philly shave den to my Chicago shave den, I forgot blades! So I stopped by Merz (how nice is it to be within walking distance of their downtown location?) and they did not have any Gillette blues or blacks, so I grabbed some Shark Super Chromes.
Three shaves into them, I realize they are as close-shaving and as comfortable as the vaunted Ninja! I kid you not! Frankly, maybe a tiny bit closer and a tiny bit more comfortable. I get a cleaner jaw line for sure. I don't know how they'll degrade from this point, but the first three shaves were the equal or better than the blacks. I think a bulk buy is in my future. They are cheaper and easier to obtain, to boot.
Three shaves with either Cella or ROR Mughetto di Baloney (sic), one restored brush with 22mm TGN finest, a DE89 mounted on an Ikon handle. Near perfection with the Sharks!
Now that I'm a year and half into this, maybe I should do a round of blade testing again, I am, apparently, more tuned into it now. Try some Sharks, heartily recommended.
