What's new

The Shark may have just jumped my Gillette Blacks!

Wow!

When I was learning this DE shaving stuff, I tried at least a couple dozen blades, and Sharks (Super Chrome, in case there is more than one variety, I don't know) were one of them. I remember being favorably disposed to them, like I was to most blades, actually, the Astra, red Personna, Crystals ... I got a decent shave with most of them, and probably could not tease out small differences at that stage of experience anyway. Haven't touched one in ages.

I settled on the Gillette Black after hosting the Great Spetsnaz/Ninja faceoff and bought about a hundred and a half of them and never looked back. Once I find something I like, I'm less fascinated with experimenting. The Blacks are great blades, close and comfortable. But this time when I went from my Philly shave den to my Chicago shave den, I forgot blades! :glare: So I stopped by Merz (how nice is it to be within walking distance of their downtown location?) and they did not have any Gillette blues or blacks, so I grabbed some Shark Super Chromes.

Three shaves into them, I realize they are as close-shaving and as comfortable as the vaunted Ninja! :scared: I kid you not! Frankly, maybe a tiny bit closer and a tiny bit more comfortable. I get a cleaner jaw line for sure. I don't know how they'll degrade from this point, but the first three shaves were the equal or better than the blacks. I think a bulk buy is in my future. They are cheaper and easier to obtain, to boot.

Three shaves with either Cella or ROR Mughetto di Baloney (sic), one restored brush with 22mm TGN finest, a DE89 mounted on an Ikon handle. Near perfection with the Sharks!

Now that I'm a year and half into this, maybe I should do a round of blade testing again, I am, apparently, more tuned into it now. Try some Sharks, heartily recommended.

This makes me want to give 'em a try. I have an unopened tuck of SC's. Ironically enough, I used my last 7 OC black I had from a sampler in my Slim this morning (the first time for that combo), and it was near perfection. I might give the Sharks a try next, which might be a while, since I'm using one of the longest-lasting blades made today.

There are indeed 2 different Sharks. There is the Super Chrome (Shark SC) and the Super Stainless (Shark SS). I've had decent luck with them as well, last time I used them. It was a while back, and I do have several still in the box'o'blades. Guess I know what blade I'll re-test now coming up soon. lol

It's definitely a YMMV thing. For some reason, my face really likes the sharks. I get an incredibly close and comfortable shave from them (only beaten by the Gillette Silver Blues). I've tried pretty much all of the 'top sharp' blades, and Sharks win out...which is nice cuz they're CHEAP!

Dagnabbit! I should have put this in the blade forum, I'm always goofing that up.

Anyway, yes I have the Super Chrome version. Blacks are still superb, but I think these are equal to them or better for me. And you bet the price it right, too!

I've found the blacks, the 7'oclock blues, and the personna labs to all be pretty equal for me. I usually just buy the labs since they are $14 per 100 after shipping. lol

Shark SS here only a hubdred left out of my three hundred pack. Latley though Astra SP's have been good to me.

I just had a great week with Voskhod and Astra SP in my HD.

Maybe it's time to try a Black vs. Shark week.
So many blades, so little time!

The shark super chrome is one of my two favorite blades - the other is the SuperMax platinum which doesn't seem to get much love around here.

I received one of the Supermax blades with my Slim last January and had it lying about in my shave den and finally pulled it out, darned fine blade my only real regret is Merz doesn't carry Supermax.

What the heck took ya so long :biggrin1:.
Super Chrome Sharks are my "go to" blade and having tried one of the Super Stainless Sharks have found them to be just as good shavewise but found them a bit "tuggy".
Have you considered the 7'O'clock yellows?
On a even price comparison they are my #2 selection for a blade.

I'll take the blacks over yellows every time. These Sharks are really super blades, though. I may switch when the blacks are gone.

I like Dolphins better then Sharks, there not as
aggressive :lol::lol::lol: :001_tt2:

Sorry Guys this was left wide open and i couldnt resist )

I do have some Shark blades not sure which ones, gonna givem a shot )

I get great shaves from Shark SC blades, at least the equal of, if not a little better than, what I get from my 7 o'clock blues. They're not quite as sharp as Feather, IMHO, but they seem to hold an edge a bit longer. Now this is all just me, I'm well aware that there's a reason we see "YMMV" so often here.

after a year and a half you need to revisit the blades you did not thank much of in the beginning. It's surprising how much nicer they seem when you have your system down

If you like the India made black blades you should try the India made green blades (and the other made in India products like supermax)
