Anybody Else Loving Sharks In Their Henson?

Anybody else using Shark Super Chromes in their Henson and loving them?

I’ve been wetshaving for over a decade, and while I’ve gotten pretty good at it, I face a couple of ongoing challenges; I have thin, fairly sensitive skin, and I get up at 4am for work and have neither the spare time nor the focus (at that hour) to do a long, involved shave. Even though I favor mild razors, I’d inevitably either get a few nicks or less than satisfactory results with my pre-dawn shave.

I have tried all kinds of blades in my Henson AL13, from Nacets to Personna Platinum Chone to Astras to Dorcos and more. Even with that mild razor, I still would get a few micro nicks.

So I ordered a few Shark Super Chromes to try in the Henson. I had tried these blades in my vintage Gillettes years ago and didn’t like them at all. But in the Henson, I had a totally different experience. I could barely feel the blade, and while I required a couple passes and touch ups, I got a terrific, close shave with zero irritation. I’m much more familiar with Russian and Indian blades than the Egyptian ones, but I’m really impressed. I’m on my third shave with the Henson/Shark combo, and it’s basically foolproof.

I want to put these blades in a head to head competition with another unlikely favorite, Derby Premium, one of these days. But I’m just wondering if anyone else has tried the Henson/Shark SC combination and what they thought of it.

What Henson are you referring to?

Blade preference may vary whether you’re using Henson Mild, Medium or Aggressive.

Interesting though and thanks, I will try Shark SC on my Mild and Medium next time.
It’s the mild. I’m a mild shaver guy—blue tips, Techs, etc. I thought a fairly mild blade in the Henson mild would result in a frustratingly ineffective shave. But I’m really enjoying it!

If you like the Shark Super Chrome, you can also try the Silver Star, Gillette Silver Blue, and Lord Super Chrome for blades with also strong in smoothness as a quality.
I’ve been curious about the Silver Star. The GSB, for me, shaves really effectively in the Henson, but I’m more prone to nick myself. Again, it’s not the blade’s fault; it’s my less than perfect technique at 4am…

Quick update: I switched out the Shark SC for a Derby Premium in the Henson. Now, I quite like the Derby Premium, but it was noticeably less smooth, and I did get a small nick. Back to the Sharks I go! 🦈

I'm going to try Shark Super stainless in my ++. I have the Chromes and Platinums also, so we'll see which works best maybe, if the difference is even detectable.

Finally got around to it, and did what I said I was going to do. First shave with Shark SS was close to BBS but not quite. I have to see if the shaves get any better in subsequent shaves. Even using the Henson, I guess there are limits to the magic it can perform. Still, not a bad shave, not the most comfortable, but in a pinch I could go with it. Alum block response was minimal. I plan on trying my higher grade Sharks after this SS has served its purpose. The current result reminds me somewhat of the results I achieved in the military using Gillette Blue Blades in a Gillette razor.

@geneaut , I got Shark Super Stainless blade to put in a RazoRock JAWS simply for the LOLz, but it works well.

Don’t have a Henson yet, but will try it one when I do.
Just had a great shave with my Henson ++ with a Shark Super Chrome. Didn't care for the SS version and have yet to try out the Platinum. The shave was BBS with the 3 pass, but I could have quit with the first pass and lived with a DFS - . The Shark Super Chrome, second use, reminded me of my Feathers, must be a pretty sharp blade. Even nicked myself once with the shave. I recommend the Super Chrome for now, and maybe the Platinum version, but not the SS. Of course YMMV!
