The Mighty Arlington....Dissapoints!??

Got my Arlington puck in from Bullgoose yesterday. Gotta love Phil! The Arlingont scent was just not for me though. It was complex, and had that old school scent but something about it didn't agree with me. It is now traded on BST and I didn't even try one lather! On goes my hunt for more soaps! Any other suggestions for that "Grandma's Purse, Barber Shop, Old-Man scent"? For reference Tabac is my favorite scent...EVER.

Stick with Tabac. If you want a great soap with the Tabac-like scent, I'd recommend looking into Calani Classic Havana. Calani soaps are spectacular in general, but the Classic Havana scent is very "Tabac-like".

And to some, Tabac smells like Satan's armpit after 28 hours non-stop disco dancing. :001_tongu

Vive la difference.

Just stay with Tabac!!! its one of my favorites as well and one of the only powerful scents that doesn't cause irritation for me!

Interesting. I definitely wouldn't recommend Arlington's scent to someone that mentioned that. Marlborough might be a better fit though still not quite what you're after.

The problem with these adjectives is that the scents that one associates with them may not be quite the same as the next person's associated scents. It's a bit more productive to rely on at least slightly more objective adjectives which is why I'd be surprised if anyone that strongly favored Tabac would go for the citrus and fern of Arlington.

Back to the Tabac for now....I'd still like to find one or two more with that old school scent :D......even though I will still use Tabac 90% of the time!

Have you tried Barrister & Mann Seville? It's kind of old schooly - though not nearly as old lady, bad perfumey as Tabac. Awesome lather!

MWF? It's not really like Tabac, but it's got a kind of old school scent that's hard to quantify, at least for me. I like it.

I just got the Arlington & I don't detect much scent at all. I think I would have at tried. Maybe I got an old puck because from reviews I was expecting a much stronger scent.

I wasn't into Arlington either. The scent was OK but it's the performance that really let me down. I understand and practice the load it like you hate it mentality and the importance of soaking the puck. It lacked the cushion that I typically get from my top performers: Mikes, B&M, MWF, Tabac, Cella, PC and so on. It felt and looked good in my palm - thick and luxurious but when the blade hit my skin, I was left thinking what? Anyhow, I am floored by Panna Crema. Holy cow what a fantastic soap - protective and super slick yet doesn't leave too much of a barrier and allows for an extremely close comfy shave... Mmmmmmm.

I loved the scent of Arlington but my face did not agree with something in the composition. My face would go red and sore. A quick search on the net revealed that some people are sensitive to the preservative they use.

I also have Arlington and think it smells a bit too sweet. I love Windsor but will probably end up selling or trading my Arlington soap.

+1 Panna has really come up with the goods for me since I ordered it a few weeks ago.

One word fo warning is that the scents from Panna are quite mild, but for me that's fine.

Fransesco smells like a powdery floral cream to me. I am convinced its edible - ill report back with my findings. Love it.

I've been trying to finish off my Arlington in a mug, but every so often the citrus scent disappears and it smells like Arko. Because of the underlying Arko scent and some face redness, I won't be replacing it. I still have the other 4 DRH soaps so the Arlington won't be missed.

Haha, wow that is quite the curse.

Yikes. I better start treating my Arlington with a bit more respect - currently it's stuffed in the not-in-rotation box.
