The Goods! Straight Razor Hobbyist Gallery

Thanks again guys.
Doc, I think I'll remember which ones I made since these are staying right here with me. Maybe once I get it down pat,, and build the machines to make razors that I'm currently designing I may add makers marks for anyone that might be interested in one. Then too once I get my engraver and start doing my "carving thing" these pieces should really stand out.
I hope!
If not,, I'll have a bunch of customs I'll be more than happy to use. At this point , it's all just having fun.

Holy guacamole!!! Just when I thought that I saw everything on this site, I stumble across more amazing stuff! WOW awesome file work!!! I had no idea there were custom straights like these.

13/16 random pattern damascus. I hammered out the rough shape by hand. Then finished the shape on the grinder.
Scales are black G10 with tru-stone wedge. SS stacked washers and silver pins
I'm real happy with with the overall shape and total weight of the razor.
I was shooting for a overall weight similar to a Filly #13.
My original scaled Filly DT#13 has a weight of 49 grams. My razor came in a 52 grams.
At least I got pretty close :001_smile

It was a good Sunday. This AM I built the F. Eisele shown in the forum and this afternoon/evening I cleaned up this W&B. Here too it was a swap of scales. Someone had rescaled this in oversize scales.
From another razor I had some large Tortoise shell scales that were cracked at the end. Sooooooo.
Pop them on the W&B after cleaning up the end of the busted scales. Just hated to toss T-Shell and knew I'd use it somewhere. I made domed washers and poured my own acrylic wedge in a reddish brown. Cleaned up the blade with the usual crud on it and call it "another in the rotation".

Very beautiful razors. How long does it take you to clean up the scales? Is it just hand polishing or with a multitool?

Doc, Nope! I'm busier than ever. I don't know what's happening. Full days well into the night. But taking time to work on razors is sort of " All work and no play ,,," a guy needs time to play.

Chico, Thanks. In this case they go very quickly as they weren't all that bad, just basically dull and crazed. Cut off the cracked end with a band saw, sanded to shape and overall sanding and a quick polish on the buffer. Most scales follow this pattern. As long as no major reshaping,, or removing gouges etc. is required. But they too go quick. The Eisele took a bit longer as a bit more was done to them.

Here is a Lister Knowles I got as part of a barter for some work. The razor came just as you see it. The grinding marks are not mine. It sported a set of blonde Horn , which could have cleaned up a bit,, but with the splits and cracks after seeing just how nicely it the blade did clean up,,,,, well,,I just wasn't going to use them again.
I made the acrylic some time ago but never got around to using it on a razor. Now's as good a time as any. It may not be my favorite color but with the dozens and dozens I have all wearing black this is a nice change of pace being the yellow with the black swirls. Hope you like it.

And here is the finished razor with the scales I mentioned. Now just hone it and get another in the rotation.
