The Generosity of my friends... A.K.A. New Custom Paco

Got a great treat in the mail today.

My good friend Brian, whom I have traded with or made for what seems like gobs of shaving stuff, sent me an AWESOME package today...

Inside it, I find a Kamisori, and a Kamisori... TWO!

Check it:

Much to my satisfaction, this Kamisori is sweet. Nice heft, sharp as hell, and a good overall geometry - I think it will shave me VERY well.

And then, as if the custom Kamisori wasn't enough, in the box is a little surprise... I knew about the Paco Kamisori, but I didn't know this was coming too!

Looks like I have a great travel razor option, or for those days that I just need a PERFECT shave with no fuss (and believe me, this razor will do that)

Needless to say, I'm super stoked to get a Kamisori shave tonight, and I'm definitely honored to own one of Paco's Kamisori.

Thanks brother! Wonderful stuff here...

Jeff

Your write up of Paco's gift is unacceptable. You have to include the type of steel that it is, the heat treatment (or other) used, And let's not forgot the bevel angle.
Oh yes, we also need to hear about the stone progression utilized.
Anything less than this is unacceptable (lol).

.....i bought one of Paco's Korean Kamisoris..............

.........good shave except for the cuts, but that was completely due to operator error........

.......if i get good enough, i might graduate to a Feather........

Spring steel... Literally the leaf spring from a truck..
Heat treated and quenched in oil...
Wrapped with hemp cord sealed with CA...
Honed on a 1k king then 6k then progressed out to green lapping film.. Stropped on cotton impregnated with .5 micron diamond.... Stropped on Tony miller latigo....

It is a tad sharp...

Jeff... It was just a thanks for all the stuff you have made for me... Scales, brushes, strops. The ton of soaps you have sent...

Thanks bro!

Welp. First shave down. Nice shave. Very smooth edge - I was surprised by that as I don't usually have much luck with wedge-esque grinds... Got a fantastic shave tonight, and the razor was surprisingly nimble and easy to hold. I did have some sticking issues with the back side though - the steeper bevel was a little wonky to my kamisori-virgin hands. Take some getting used to for sure.

I'm going to give this sucker a workout for the next week at least and really get a technique developed.

I had a ton of trouble though on my right side chin - my standard grip on the ATG pass is impossible with the long fixed handle, so I have to regroup there - had to do that part of my chin with a regular straight.

Badass blade Brian! I love it...

Another beautiful custom Brian!
I think it is time for me to start thinking about getting one too. :001_smile

Sort of have to pay for a wedding next week first though. :w00t:
