The Best Face Moisturizer

Hi Everybody,

I have found all products that work well for me; except with Winter here I am needing a facial moisturizer for before bed and in the morning. I have oily skin and need somthing that is best for oily skin.

What products have you used that you recommend?

Thanks!

I use maleface in the winter when I am out in the elements.

Hydrolast balm is amazing stuff also - don't use peppermint near the eyes though. :w00t:

Laroche-Posay has some of the best stuff to make your face feel good. Hydraphase Legere or Riche (light or heavy) is made for facial skin, is non-greasy, and is unscented.

Otherwise, according to my dermatologist-to-be friend, Vaseline remains the best moisturizer, its main downside being that it leaves your face tacky until it absorbs.

NB: remember that "moisturizing" does not mean "adding water to a dried up skin" but rather "preventing moisture loss", which explains why a greasy substance can be a "moisturizer".

Nothing works better for before bed than slathering on some pure shea butter. It'll soak in over night and leave you ready for the perfect shave in the morning.

Too heavy though for daytime use.

Nature's Baby Organics Face & Body Moisturizer is very good. It's certified organic. You grab it at iherb.com for a resonable price. If you use the IRO586 code you will get it for $1.65 plus shipping.

I'm currently using Anthony Logistics Facial Moisturizer and love it. They do have a formula for oily skin but I have combination skin and find that the better moisturized my face is the less oil it produces so I use the regular formula.

I also tried the version with SPF and felt like it was greasier and left my face a bit shinier than I like.

Thanks for all your suggestions....i wish sombody had like a 15 brand sampler pack to try....as there is so many suggestions

If you have oily skin, why do you need to moisturise? Read what dermatologist Jeffrey Benabio has to say on that subject. If you must use a moisturiser, he also recommends petroleum jelly as an inexpensive product.

Why the hell someone should use a petroleum byproduct? Shea butter, cocoa butter or coconut butter are vegetable and natural moisturizers. They are not cheap as petroleum jelly but at least I feel safer.

Because the whole purpose of the petroleum jelly is that it provides a barrier to evaporation of the moisture in the skin. You moisturise the skin by wetting it (shower or splash water on your skin), then put a barrier cream on to seal the moisture in. In any case, most of the "skincare systems" consist of stripping your skin of its natural oils with a detergent "cleanser", then replacing the oils with new oils in their "moisturiser", which makes a lot of money for the cosmetic company but is otherwise pointless. Read the articles I linked.

Petroleum jelly is used because it does the job well, is inert and is cheap. As for "vegetable and natural", so too are hemlock and prussic acid but you'd be well-advised not to put them in your body. Virtually all of the plant foods we eat are not "natural" at all, but the result of generations of farmers selectively breeding them to eliminate the poisons that plants evolved to prevent animals eating them. Most hunter-gatherers had to detoxify their plant foods by elaborate procedures of pulverising and washing to avoid being poisoned.

I didn't said that being natural means good. Snake venom is natural but in many cases will kill you.

But returning to my point, petroleum jelly is a petroleum byproduct, created and refined in labs, and in some cases may have carcinogenic contaminants. You may say "Oh, they make it pure and safe enough to be used". Are you ready to bet your health and your life on that? Because I'm not...

At least with pure cocoa butter and pure shea butter you are perfectly safe, and they do a great job, sealing the moisture. Why changing from something perfectly good just to save a few bucks and gamble with your health?
Cosmetic industry doesn't care with your health or mine or anybody else's health, they only care about profit. They always say that anything they sell is safe and good, like has been said by others in the past with DDT and asbestos, which are now are banned and proven to be carcinogenic.

I think you'll find that petroleum by-products are in a lot of the products that you use, only they're labelled under another name like petrolatum or mineral oil. And I don't worry about it, because there are a lot more important things to worry about. Anyway, just how many studies have been done on the carcinogenic properties of shea butter? None, I'll bet.

I share your opinion of the cosmetic industry, but the problem is that the health food/cosmetic industry is no better. They make wild claims for the benefits of their products (with no proof whatsoever) while also claiming that they have no side effects. That's impossible.

At night:
Just wash with warm water and dry or use a toner of some sort (Thayer's...alcohol free version)...While you sleep your skin is actually hard at work regenerating itself, balancing oil production and expelling impurities. Regular application of creams/moisturizers interferes with these essential tasks, and over time skin becomes less able to care for itself. Use of nighttime moisturizers signals the sebaceous glands to cut down on moisture production, resulting in even drier skin. Over time, skin becomes dependent on moisturizing products just to appear "normal."

For daytime, I highly recommend Dr. Hauschka's Quince or "Light Rose" Creme. They are excellent.

The downside is that Dr. Hauschka's products are $$...Try eBay. Whole Foods etc will sell these for ~$35 or more for a 1oz tube

Trumper's moisturizer is also great.
