Tell me about Proraso Red

I found some on ebay for $10.99 with free shipping and I couldn't resist. I absolutely love the cream and was really excited when I heard they came out with a red soap. How does it compare to the cream scent and performance wise? And let's see some pics either of the soap or lather would be great!

I am not that big of a fan of Proraso, but I got this to give it a shot. It is fairly similar to the green tube with a hint of Sandalwood. If you like green you will like red. I dont like green, so I gave it to a friend.

Got a shipment of red soap yesterday and tried it this morning. Great stuff. Easy to lather and really slick under the blade.

It's a great soap but its Proraso so that isn't really surprising. While I would hesitate to label Proraso as the end-all-be-all of soaps and creams, in my limited experience (and from what I've read of others) its a solid performer. I prefer the menthol green but I keep a tube of the sandalwood in rotation. The lather is good and rich and has a nice warm feel and woodsy scent. It is undoubtedly sandalwood so if you like it, its probably worth it.

I have the soap in the new red tub - but I don't have the cream, so I can't compare soap to cream.

Comparing the sandalwood soap to the green and white tub soaps, it lathers really just the same way they do - which is very well indeed.

The fragrance is a relatively subtle sandalwood, giving a soapy woody scent, and I find it very nice indeed - I really didn't want it to be overpowering, and I was very pleased that it isn't.

Update: Yes, there's an earthy note too, as others have reported.

I have the tub and I love it. No menthol like the green, nice earthy scent. Not overpowering. I get great lather out of it and it's probably #2 in my rotation behind MWF and tied with Mama Bears Hinoki. I face lather it usually with a Simpson Berkeley. Pic is bowl lathered fyi. I bought my tub on sale from ItalianBarber for $6.99 a little over a month ago.

I have both. They perform exactly the same. I love the soap but then I'm a soap guy. And love Proraso. The new formula is slicker than the old. Just get the soap if you already know you like the cream.

Get both and make a super lather using both at the same time.

Lately I've been mixing the Proraso Red in the tube with RazoRock's Third Eye soap. They go well together.

it's a superb product.I am 95% certain I would prefer the cream over tub (tried razorock tub soap- didn't like it as much as my soaps).
the cream is rich and the fragrance is heave in sandalwood, but not too chemically, it has a nice balance to it, rich.
The lather is slick and I bought my brother a red tube as well and he uses it for straight shaving. (For now. I just mailed him two of Mike's Natural soaps)
anyhow, Proraso Red has found a spot in my 3 soap rotation. Next to Harris and Mike's Natural. Mystic Waters is next on the sample list.

I find the lather to be indistinguishable from the cream when bowl (scuttle) lathered. Haven't tried face lathering with either one. The lather is terrific in my opinion. Earthy scent; nice in winter. It's currently $6.99 at the Italian Barber- cheapest I've found so far.

Nice light sandalwood scent (not overpowering like compared to Art of Shaving Sandalwood). Great performer!
