Switched from Merkur to Feather

Wow, what an eye opener.

I was getting in a bit of a shaving rut with the standard Merkur blades, and so I decided to break the seal on a pack of Feathers that I've been holding onto. (I'm waiting for a very cool Japanese straight razor to come in the mail soon, so maybe the Feathers will "break in" my face to the feel of Japanese steel?! Who knows.)

Anyway, what a difference the blade makes. Where I always got a nice clean shave with the Merkurs, I found that late in the week, when the stubble was relatively low, the Merkurs just did not seem to be doing the same job of cutting and instead seemed to be dragging or scraping a bit, especially against the grain.

Well, with the Feathers, that's all gone. These little puppies cut stubble like a hot knife through butter, leaving a closer shave than I thought was possible with a DE. Ok, sure, there are a few more nicks than I'm used to, but didn't I read somewhere that a little blood actually makes the shaving cream work better?! Seriously, these blades are worth it, and the nicks seem to come from not paying attention, which is when you are going to get nicked anyway.

I recommend them highly to my fellow wet shavers.

Yeah, Feathers were my recent eureka moment as well. I'm going to quit while I'm ahead and sell off all my other packs of blades.

I had a similar experience several months ago. As a noob, I bought a 5 pack of Merkurs thinking that they'd work well with my HD. Then as my supply ran out I decided to try out other blades and Feather topped my list. I was shocked at the difference between the two and amazed how much closer I got with the feathers. Some bad shaves followed in adjusting to the Feather but it was an eye opener. I still keep Feather's in the rotation but not exclusively. I will use them as my go to on occasions where I want to get a BBS or on the rare occasions where I miss a day and can't wait to shave.
