Switch to Creams!

Been a soap guy since I started DE shaving over the last few years. Had no interest in creams for whatever reasons.

About three weeks ago I happen to walk into a Bodyshop store and got a sample of shaving cream. The next day I wet my brush and put a pea size amount on my brush and started to face lather.

Hello, were have you been all my life!!!

From the various creams I have since tried, (Dettol, C.O. Bigelow and Godrej Delux) I'm now a cream guy.

Compared to soaps, creams lather faster, thicker and easier for me. Also the lather is just thicker to a point of being like frosting on a cake. Plus in the case of Godrej Delux I don't have to use EVOO as a pre-shave because of the added lanolin.

Of course your YMMV but for me creams are now the only way to lather.

On a additional note, I must do a review of Godrej Deluxe.
It is amazing!

Creams are definitely easier for me and I find that I get slightly better lather from creams also. Lately I have been ignoring my soaps and using my various creams more and more.

Before I started doing the Shaving Cream of the Month, I would probably have said I get closer shaves using soap lather. It seemed the soap lather was sometimes a little less thick and rich as most cream lather, but it still provided a closer shave, like maybe there was too much thickness to the cream lather.

But after using Speick last month, and Tabac this month, if not every day, at least most days, I really believe the shaving result from these, meaning the closeness of the shave and the comfort after shaving, can stand up to any soap lather. I still think that many lathers have different qualities of richness, slickness, cushion, etc., but for me, there's no longer a general rule that between soaps and creams, one is always better than the other.

My journey was exactly the opposite of yours. I started out with creams and thought they were the be-all, end-all. now I use soaps about 80% of the time. I just prefer them. They're also much more economical.

I find soaps to be more practicle, whereas creams are more of a luxury. they seem to be mnore time consuming and that's why i leave them for the weekend. Soaps produce a grat lather for me in a quick fashion, so on a lazy weekday night, there's only one winner.

Having said that, soaps in my experience tend to be better for my skin than creams anyway.

I have good news... you still haven't tried a top tier cream (except maybe Proraso)

Wait till you try:

Castle Forbes Lime
Nancy Boy Signature
Any Trumper, Taylor, Truefitt & Hill, or DR Harris
Acqua di Parma.

You will flip!!!!:biggrin1:

I use both soaps and creams. I like both, and variation is great. My favorite soaps are Tabac and Fitjarsoaps Amber, for creams I must have TOBS Avocado, Rose and Sandalwood within reach.

I use both as well. I primarily used soaps for years with an occasional swerve into creams. As I tried some of the TOBS and GFT creams I put them into my regular rotation. And then I tried Castle Forbes and Oh My! There are many great products on the market in both soaps and creams so why not take advantage of both? I have a fairly large rotation that I am beginning to pare down rather reluctantly. I have enjoyed trying new products and at present have a self imposed moratorium on purchasing new soaps and creams. I know, it is easier to do with a fairly large rotation so don't be overly impressed. Besides, Christmas is coming and a list is in the works. :tongue_sm

Regards,

Doug

Have you tried or do you think Godrej Deluxe is a top tier cream?

Just today I got a tube of Omega shaving soap - I've never tried anything but soap pucks so I'm really looking forward to trying it out.

switched it up tonight as well from my DR Harris Arlington Bowl to AOS Lavender Creme.

I couldn't believe how easily it lathered. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that i have well water that is very hard....

but for me....form now on....I'm a creme guy.

The cream is easier, faster and gives me a richer lather. I still enjoy my soaps from time to time but it is hard to beat the AOS creams I use.

I don't get the pricey part about the high end creams and soaps. Maybe because I have spent so much money on razor and everything else. A few more dollars on a high end cream or soap doesn't matter to me. Then again I am not the sharpest tool in the shed.

I've been an exclusive soap guy for about two years, but recently have been getting more into creams and am enjoying it immensely.

That being said, I won't be giving up my soaps, no no no. Both soaps and creams have their lures for me and I'm not prepared to give up my Harris lavender soap, Speick or Cella.
