I was watching this lot on the 'bay and I'm surprised to see how high it went. With shipping this is $64 and I just don't see what in this lot is worth it... there's a fatboy case, but it's got a bakelite tech in it. There's a travel set, but it doesn't look complete... is there an item here that drove this up? Do you think this lot is worth the money?

Maybe someone thought they were getting a cased Fat Boy. I was watching a lot of 5 that I thought may have slid in under the radar, but it ballooned up to $48 and some change. It actually had a cased Fat Boy, though.
There are 5 super speeds in that lot. At two are the straight barreled 50's style.
They were obviously going for the NOS Good News razor.
Did it? I looked at this, but the razor in the Fat Boy case looked to me like just some black-handled razor.
I suspect that the buyer is someone who saw a number if items that could be matched with preexisting items to make complete sets that will reappear on ebay. If you divide the cost by the number if items the cost per item was quite small.
+1. There is probably $65 worth of just SuperSpeeds there.
I think Andy meant the lot he the lot he was looking at early not the one Rob posted a link too, or at least that's how I read it.

That's kind of what I was thinking. You've got a couple nice Super Speeds, an Old Type, etc. I mean you have fourteen razors total plus some vintage blades and that travel kit. Even with shipping, it's not all that bad, although I personally don't like the idea of paying $16 for shipping for anything.
I agree that there was a lot in that group. Keep in mind they are not making those razors anymore and demand will probably go up.
If you toss out 4 of the 14 as total garbage, that's still an average of about $6.50 a razor after shipping. That's in the realm of antique store finds.
Matt's right. I was referring to a lot of 5 I was watching that had a cased Fattie, and went for about the same price.

Well, I guess this isn't so strange... It's just that nothing in this looked particularly interesting then I see the price go to what I Consider to be pretty high. Thanks for the insights.

The antiques mall off montgomery street in Fort Worth is a rip off!
Antique stores can often be crazy rip offs. There was a store in Niles, CA (where Charlie Chaplin got his start by the way) and they were selling a crappy mirror, mug and brush set for 850.00 USD!
I love ebay lots though...they do however seem to contribute to the piles of unused razors I have and to all the BST time desperately trying to get rid of them so that I may create new piles...

I have only found safety razors in one antique store where I live - uncleaned condition, of course with prices in the upper $20's for techs and superspeeds - Prices I would only consider if they were cleaned and polished on the b/s/t... certainly no bargains.
I don't know really, but have you seen the amount of people that buy something, then post saying "hey, I just paid $x for this razor, what is it?"
You can't make sense of what other people buy and their reasons for sometimes.
But what is that razor above the micromatic?

Above the micromatic is a techmatic, an early cartridge razor - I don't think it's worth much except to a collector. I'm trying to give one away for free in the pif forum and no one's taken me up on it yet.
