Surprised by BIC DE blades

I just had my nightly shave and decided to try a Greek BIC DE blade from sampler pack.

Setup was this:

Palmolive Stick Soap
Omega 10049 'Professional' Brush
Edwin Jagger EJ DE89L
BIC Blade
Nivea ASB
Brut AS

Three passes and a BBS shave was had. This is my first time with this blade. I usually do hand stropping but forgot this time so it was as is from the packet.

I've used BIC disposables in the past and always got a nice close shave with them but they always left me bloody, even the #2 Sensitive ones.

This BIC DE Blade really surprised me. I'm quite glad actually as I have another 50 coming in the mail from Dr.Idiot

To which Greek BICs are you referring? Stainless or Platinums?

That's an interesting report. I think I've got a few of the yellow Bic DE blades somewhere but I've never actually tried one. I might give on a run when the Swede eventually gives up the ghost.

Sorry, I should have said.
BIC CHROME PLATINUM (Yellow Pack)

Actually I didn't know they had two types either :confused1

Might be hard to find the Astors, they came as a gift from B&B member abyssos in Bulgaria!

I too was pleasantly surprised with the Bic yellow pack. They are now in my rotation.

I was STUNNED by the yellow pack, too. Just a few weeks ago I said they were my new go-to after a first incredible shave with them. Then the next shave? Cuts and bleeding to the likeness I haven't seen since my early days of shaving. The shave after that? Brilliant! Then the next one was awful. Then I found that the only good shaves from it were some sort of lucky tumble of the dice. So, I don't know what to make of them. I still have two more in the pack, but I think I'm going to retire them.

I've moved on to Feathers and Iridiums, but still have quite a few of the yellow Bics around. They've always given me good to great shaves - I don't understand why they get dumped on around here. They're not quite as good as the Feathers and Iridiums, but they're still a very good and consistent blade. I've never had a bad one.

Longevity with these blades was a problem for me.
First shave - awesome
Second shave - noticably worse, some irritation
Third shave - unbearable

Sounds about right. The first shave is more than awesome... it's bloody brilliant! Then is goes tumbling downhill quickly.

Longevity with BICs is really a problem if you have very tough beard and have to do 3 passes. With me the first shave is good, the second is OK, and by shave 3 the blade is just dull.
