Super Iridiums - what and why?

I keep hearing about Polsilver Super Iridiums, but I know nothing about them. Are they some kind of iridium coated steel for near-mythical sharpness? Is it advertising and hype? Why do people use them?

OK, the last one was pretty self explanatory. :001_tongu But how do they compare to a more commonly seen blade (Astra and Feather are the 2 that come to mind), and are they worth trying/using?

Super Iridiums, and Gillette 7 O'Clock blacks are two blades that I always make sure I have in my stash. Both are similar for me (very good balance of sharpness, and smoothness). I'd say the Super Iridiums are sharper than Astras but not as sharp as Feathers, a little smoother than Feathers in my opinion though.

Why I just used an Iridium Super today, in a 2013 iKon SB. Very comfortable and efficient shave.

I'm not really a fan of the Astra SP blades. I use them because I have them (so I certainly dislike them less than some others). I like Feathers and Polsilver Super Iridiums and Iridum Supers (and Gillette 7 O'Clock blacks, and Voskhod Teflon) a lot. The Feather blades in a mild or mild-ish razor, like a Weber DLC, are just amazing.

<sigh> and I thought that Iridiums were 1 blade, not two . . .

OK, what are the differences between Polsilver Super Iridiums and Iridium Supers and how to they compare?

This feels like a rabbit hole that keeps getting deeper and deeper

I have tried the Polsilver Super Iridiums and am not impressed. Have yet to try the Iridium Supers...
I'm guessing you won't like them.... the Polsilvers were touted as "the return of the Iridium Supers", which had their fans. Some people are unconvinced, but most seem to think that if they're distinguishable at all, they're very close indeed.

I've used both and did notice a difference. The Polsilver version were sharper but I got slight irritation that I don't get with the old Iridium Supers.

I'm going to say there is NO difference, they are the same blade just packaged differently for other parts of the world. I recently have traded for some G Blacks and have been using them exclusively, and have pretty much come to the conclusion that I prefer the Polsilver SI/IS blades over them. I find them smoother with less tendency for small weepers. This of course, is my opinion and rank the G Blacks a close second behind them. Try these blades, they're a great blade!

I don't have any experience with the Blacks, but I would agree with this concerning Polsilvers and Feathers.

Hi!
No there isn't any Iridium on the blades. Packaging/marketing hype. It's like giving a car an "X" somewhere in its name.I like the Super Iridiums and they work well with certain razors I have(obligatory -ymmv). My Crystals love my 47-50 Aristocrats. The Supers--not quite. There is much info to be found on the ShaveWikis. Feathers are great, but 2 and out for me. But wait.....Voskhods and my OC's, a match made in heaven for me. Teflon coated. Now you may ask yourself --Is this coating on the edge also? So here's a link that you'll like, I think!
