straight razor storage

Hello guys
i need some advice i have purchased the whipped dog sight unseen deal with 2 strops and am waiting for this to be delivered however i expect this to take a while due to shipping to the UK and with the recent problems Larry has had so i am using a shavette for now however i caved in and bought a shave ready vintage from the bay. The razor is in excellent condition but i can not use it untill my strops arrive as this means it is going to remain unused for some time do i need to do anything special when storing it for example oiling it as the blade is in such good condition i want to keep it this way

thanks in advance

Some oil on the blade would be good. You can use any light oil but no food oils. Baby oil (mineral oil) is a good choice.

I keep mine in the bathroom drawer. All of mine are vintage and 90% are Carbon Steel

That said, I make sure they are cleaned and dried thoroughly, then thoroughtly oiled. Further I keep Silca packets in the drawer.

I’m stumped
I dry the razor with a towel then dry it again with Toilet paper, don't forget inbetween the scales. followed by 20 laps on the strop.
last but not least I place mine in a Silicone-Treated Cotton Razor Sleeve from the Superior Shave. Store them on my dresser.
for long term storage I will use oil as a added protection but for daily shaving just dry and put it in the sleeve.

there is some alternate ways to strop like newspapers and such. that info is somewhere on this forum, might be worth a look for a stopgap method. just saying.

This is what I use on my straight razor after every shave.....It's really made for electric clippers but it also works great on all types of razors for removing water, disinfecting and even oiling imvho.

Take a full size sheet of newspaper and fold it again and again, longways, so you end up with a long strop about 3" wide. Pass one end over a towel rack, pinch both ends together, and pull it tight. This makes a fairly effective improvised, disposable strop. In fact, it is good to start out on newspaper so you don't slash your leather strop to pieces. Learn, and make your mistakes, on the newspaper.

If your razor is DRY and CLEAN, and not stored in a damp place, it won't rust, oil or no oil. But basically any light machine oil will do. Just wipe it all off before you shave with it. Petroleum jelly works, too. Only a very light film is needed. But me, I never oil my razors, and I live on a small sailboat in New Orleans, a damp environment to be sure, and I work on ships. I never have rust problems.
