Stove gaskets and grills

I've joined a couple of grilling forums, but I'm not finding a whole lot of help on those. I'd imagine the gentlemen here would be more forthcoming with information.

I'm installing a wood stove gasket in my Master Forge Dually charcoal grill. This seems to be a common solution to gaps where you don't want them, so I took it up as well.

However, I'm concerned about the fiberglass rope coming into contact with the food or getting material floating around in there while cooking. I was thinking about running a bead of high-heat silicone on any of the rope that is on the inside of the grill, sealing any fibers down. Does this even remotely sound like a good solution? :bored:

I am an appliance tech. Silicone is the perfect solution. You can buy food grade silicone from and appliance parts distributor, or better yet an industrial tool and supply company. There is a brush on product, but a paint brush will work fine.

I would avoid it because it may have additives and/or modifiers that are released at high temperatures. Look for something that specifies "food safe".

I used the wood stove gasket on my smoker and many BBQ fabricators use them. The fiberglass in the gasket is not friable and should be fine.
