I agree, plating sterling is wrong on so many levels. Easy enough to clean with silver polish or polishing cloth. A nice patina would be a good thing too.

That turned out very nice.
Tarnishing is a process that harm the razor and polishing it is more than that. Besides replate extends the life of it if she uses it more often.
Coating it in plastic would also extend the life of the razor...but that would be like putting a coat of Polyurethane on top of the Mona Lisa. I wouldn't do anything more to this beautiful razor other than an occasional light polishing, if needed.
