Spencer and Devon

Hey all, I just sprung for my first non-canned shave cream, Spencer and Devon Sagebrush. I've heard good things about this small company, anyone here tried the stuff?

I've use their spice scent and am currently using their unscented. Both are fantastic performers. You will not be disappointed.

I've been eyeing the S&D for some time now. Plan on ordering some unscented after I finish a couple of my soaps and creams. I have read great things about S&D.

Their tubs are big... I hope you like the Sagebrush scent! (I do, but their scents are somewhat polarizing. The Sagebrush is very strong). I can nitpick it, and I'm leaning more toward soaps these days anyway, but Spencer and Devon make an extremely protective cream. I have a full tub of the unscented to get to, once I finish off my Sagebrush.

I love the Sagebrush scent and use it very often. Spencer & Devon creams are fabulous. Easy to lather, great protection and good on my face. What's not to like?

Hi emsflyer,

I have all 3 varieties of the Spencer Devon creams. I have the Sagebrush, the Spice and the Unscented. I love all three. They make some of the thickest and most protective lathers around.I put them on a par with Castle Forbes and the Italian XPEC creams. But be warned, the Sage brush scent appears to be ,eithe you love it or hate it. I think its great but others here have been really put off by the scent. However, all 3 of their creams are absolutely topnotch .And they are made here in the States(Texas to be specific). You won't regret buying some.

I've only used the unscented S&D. However, it's become my favorite cream and the only one I still use after converting to soaps. Terrific slickness and glide, very kind and moisturizing for the face, and very easy to lather. It needs a lot less water than other creams I've used, so be sure to add water sparingly when you first try it.

Thanks guys, I used the sagebrush today and I love the scent. I'm typically drawn to natural, earthy scents over chemical scents anyway. The cream preformed well and felt almost like a moisturizer when I was done. In typical noob fashion, I don't think I created a great lather and therefore I don't think I had enough thickness on my face for a really great shave, but it was good nonetheless. Next time I'll make sure my brush is good a wet before making a lather. Not enough water I don't think this time. ...

My guess is that you didn't use enough product. I don't think you need your brush to be dripping wet. S&D is already pretty moist. I used it today, and had to remember to dial back the amount of water I added compared to the soaps I usually use. Try using more product, squeezing most of the water out of your pre-soaked brush, and then adding water little by little.

I've had the Spice when Bullgoose was stocking it and I thought it was very decent stuff but where do you get it these days?

I got mine from Amazon, free two day shipping with Amazon Prime! So today I got the mixture right. A little more product and not to much water seemed to work well. I still only need a little bit of product for a full 3 passes. I put in a fresh Astra Superior Platinum blade and got the best shave of my life. It was amazing. Today was the first time that I literally can't feel ANY indication of any hair. Like it was removed well below the surface with a laser or something. I do love the sage brush scent and LOVE the moisturizing properties of this cream. It's my new favorite. I'll be trying the spice as well.

I got the sagebrush as well. For me, the scent kind of reminds me of walking into a shed or a log cabin and you get that smell of used tools. Not bad. Rather very masculine to my nose. That being said the shaving cream is one of the best that I have ever used. It is one of the few shaving creams that does not give me a super tight feeling on my face. Definitely have to get the spice version. Super moisturizing.

+1 for the latter half of Dan's comment. Great ,moisterizing and protective lather. However,I think it really smells like genuine sagebrush(after a rainstorm).

Somebody commented on an earlier thread that the sagebrush smelled to him like roasting chicken. Took me a couple weeks to get over it.
I haven't tried the Spice. -- I've had the tub of Sagebrush for nigh on a year.... it's still probably got a couple months to go, given my rotation. And an unscented is in my fridge at this point...

It is easily the best cream I've used thus far. I'm using soaps most of the time now, so it's lasting forever. But Spice is probably in my future. In another year. Only creams I'm really interested in replacing now are S&D and Em's. QCS is on the docket, might change my mind, but that's more the consistency of a soft soap.

I was able to pick up the sagebrush as well as the spice here on BST.
Only used the spice so far, it was quite nice.
