What's new

First time with a menthol cream - wow!

Greetings all,

I have been wet shaving for about 12 years now and recently realized i never tried any mentholated stuff.. First up with the ProRaso Green.. Wow what a blast! I was almost uncomfortable for a second but got used to it fast ! Excellent.. I cant see me using it for every shave but for sure want this sensation moving forward.. The cream in itself too was excellent my face felt great...

Now on the Radar.. Palmolive Menthol (on the way)... and The Lords Menthol... from Egypt.. but the Lords as 12 tubes for 45 US Dollars , although a good deal i dont need that much from 1 brand!

Look forward to seeing how the Palmolive Menthol compares to the Proraso green.. !!

It smells very nice and it gives great lather but it’s relatively mild on the menthol. It still gives a cooling sensation but it’s not a face freezer.

Rick

would you consider proraso green a face freezer? the other one i have coming is the palmolive menthol to test ! :)

Dull yet interesting
Proraso Green was the first shave soap I ever bought.
I still have a little left in the mug. But I just added a tube of the Green in shave cream form. I love the scent and the menthol.
Another menthol soap I like is Stirling's Margaritas In The Arctic.

There are some good creams from LEA of Spain. The menthol level is moderate. The classic cream has a sandalwood and moss scent. Edit: looks like someone beat me to it!

You might try Lea menthol cream as well sometime. I'm just finishing up a tube and like it very much.

I heard it was more mild in terms of the menthol blast than the Proraso green? can you attest to this?

I do love LEA normal and im waiting on the classic to come back in stock as i love lanolin.. is the LEA menthol in your eyes as strong as proraso green? i heard it was milder!

Don’t forget to use the mentholated pre-shave, A/S and balm to elevate the experience even further.

Ive never used a preshave i tend to think its overkill and just go with hot towel and essential oils choice in there such as eucalyptus , clove , wintergreen etc. for a strong blast! IM also fussy with after shaves the strong alcohol ones are too drying and the balms i use tend to be more natural in ingredients as they absorb . I will keep the pre shave in mind tho as thats something new to me :) and not something i leave on !

No, not a face freezer either but it’s got the most menthol of all the Proraso creams.

Rick

Whats a face freezer to you?? :)

I have the palmolive lined up next to try as my 2nd menthol cream! :)

Actually i liked its ingredients and so i just bought a little jar of it to add to my next menthol shave :) :) !!!

I like the Weleda after shave balm to finish as it also has eucalyptus oil and has myrrh and chamomile which i really enjoy on my skin - an alternate ending but still with a eucalyptus lift!! :)

There are two different LEA creams with menthol.

LEA in green tube -- menthol level similar to Proraso Green, scent is mild without strong eucalyptus note.

LEA Classic is silver tube -- menthol level much less than Proraso Green, scent is sandalwood & moss without eucalyptus.

Pre-shave is useful, but you don't have to use a special product just for shaving. The main thing is to clean the skin and soften the whiskers with water. Many products can be used, for instance Prep pre-shave cream, Noxzema, glycerin soap, etc.

You should be careful with essential oils. They are quite concentrated. It's possible to become sensitized to them and get irritation. It's best to always dilute essential oils and watch out for any skin reaction when using them.

I have an old tube of Proraso Green that I honestly haven't used for probably ten years. Just went and sniffed it as well as my Lea Menthol and I wouldn't say the Lea was less mentholy than the Proraso though maybe some of its potency may have faded due to age. I can definitely say I prefer the scent of the Lea over the Proraso overall. This is verified by the fact that I own a ten year old slightly used tube of Proraso and a recently acquired tube of Lea Menthol which is nearly gone. The Proraso is fine, I just prefer the Lea.

for sure and thank you for the concern and share. I work with botanicals professionally and agree i basically dont use EO's but diluted here would be nice for aromatherapy, nothing more :)
