Seeking Recommendations for Natural Shave Creams

Hey everyone,

I’ve been looking into switching to more natural products for my shaving routine and was wondering if anyone has experience with natural shave creams?

What are some good natural shave creams that you’ve tried? How do they compare to the regular ones in terms of lather, protection, and overall feel?

Any recommendations or tips for making the switch would be greatly appreciated! From this forum I’ve heard about Spiek. Wondering if anyone knows any other brands.

Hmm, what would you consider to be "natural"?

All soaps are some sort of fat (animal or plant based) in combination with lye. Professional soap makers would add gumming agents and preservatives. Almost all small batch artisans skip the last 2 parts.

Two I'm most familiar with are Speick and Cella Extra Extra Bio in the Green jar or tube. They are pretty reasonably priced products.

For Cella Green, I'd suggest using the soft soap in the jar instead of the tube because it is a bit too thick to work well in the tube. You can just scoop some out of the jar and lather it up or use a brush directly.

There is another product I'd suggest which is a "hybrid" soft soap from Signature Soaps in the UK. All of their shaving soaps are natural vegan products that use only essential oils for fragrance. I'd suggest the scent called Coria, but they are all good in their own way. They also have some that are completely unscented.

For harder soaps, there is Canada shaving soap that is a very basic unscented soap made for those with sensitive skin.

I shaved a fortune
I can't see to find a good source in the States for Speick cream... I tried 3 or 4 other brushless creams and was so disappointed, most of them were binned after one or two uses.

After this failed experiment for a good travel cream, I tried hand lathering Baumbe.be unscented shaving cream. I have loved Baumbe.be using a lathering bowl and nice brush, but I have to say.... it was better than anything I've tried that is marketed as an unscented shaving cream in a tube. It isn't a budget product but we don't have many overnight stays these days, so I'll just take it along when we do stay over and I don't want to pack up a bowl and brushes.

I might continue to search for Speick here in the States or perhaps one of you knows a good source for it here. I found the scented versions and I'm not even sure they sell an unscented version, but if they do, I haven't stumbled upon it yet.

I just took a look at the Speick website.... They don't seem to list an unscented shaving cream... or one for sensitive skin. They have a lot of products along that line, but perhaps, not shaving cream.

Welcome to B&B, Sir roshsr!
Indeed Speick is a great product.
Do you have any other natural shave items yet that you really like?

I use Muhle Organic. It's much more affordable in Europe for some reason, so if I find a good price, I sometimes order it from there. It is the only cream I am aware of that doesn't irritate my skin at all.

Ingredients:
Aqua (Water), Potassium Stearate, Potassium Palmitate, Potassium Cocoate, Glycerin, Sodium Stearate, Sodium Palmitate, Sodium Cocoate, Potassium Myristate, Cetyl Palmitate, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil*, Parfum (Fragrance)**, Sodium Silicate, Sodium Thiosulfate, Limonene**, Linalool**

*Ingredients from biologically regulated cultivation **natural essential oils

These are some of the creams I saw at my local food co-op where they tend to emphasize natural products.

Weleda -- I used to use this a long time ago but it causes skin irritation (as do a lot of Weleda products).
Dr. Bronner -- No experience with the shave soap, but I don't like their bath soap (too drying).
Giovanni Sensitive, Invigorating, Moisturizing -- No experience with shave soap, but not a fan of shower products. Looks like a non-lather product.
Alba Botanica -- Used this about 2 decades ago. It's a non-lather product and I don't recall being a fan of it.
Kiss My Face -- No experience with this.
Andalou -- They didn't have this one, but this is the brand of shower gel I use. Looks like a non-lather product.

Kiss My Face is one of my favorite soaps or creams. Not sure if it's "natural" or not. The scents are natural as a are many of the ingredients but the base has synthetics (maybe they were made from plants though?).

Do you use a brush to lather?

I have briefly tried Pacific Shaving -- pacificshaving.com. Seemed ok, not up to artisan but good for travel.
Someone better than me will need to vouch for their ingredients.
Water (Aqua), Myristic Acid, Stearic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Glycerin, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Hydroxyethylcellulose, Sorbic Acid
