Thanks. I got it brand new in 1977. One owner! It certainly has seen its share of bathrooms. Outside of a few record albums and books there aren't too many things I owned in 1977 that I still have today.
Razor: Kai Folding Shavette type(Luffy)- Great Zamak shavette, easy to manipulate around the face, I like this folding type. Blade: Kai Protouch guarded (4)- Excellent blade, very smooth & sharp compared to a naked edge. Great blade to learn with or just shave IMO. Soap: Razorock Lavender- nice scent with excellent lather properties,(discontinued?) One of the better soaps in their line IMO. Brush: Yaqi 24 mm Tuxedo knot- excellent lather generator, cloud like soft tips, great gentle scrub + excellent lather painter. Pre shave: Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser + a dollop of clear Aloe Vera gel on the cleaned beard area. Prep: Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG + ATG+ pickups. Post shave: Razorock King Louis Lavender with witch hazel + a dollop of Nivea balm. Results: CCS + DFS+ BbS + no irritation + 1 tiny weeper= Excellent shave with my Kai style Shavette with a Kai Protouch guarded blade.
Have some great shaves! Stay & think safe in these Times!
Preshave: shower, frigid tap water
Brush: Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements Amber Aerolite 24mm Synthetic
Soap: Razorock ~ Dead Sea
Razor: Karve Brass Open Comb D-plate
Blade: KAI (3)
Post shave: frigid tap water, Razorock Dead Sea AS .
A splendid shave. The Karve is reputated for being a very smooth razor. Loaded with the KAI, the smoothness didn't change significantly. The Karve efficently mowed down my one day worth of growth with ease. 3 passes, BBS without additional touch ups. Just a tad of irritation, since I just shaved too speedy.
Brush: Newly acquired 26mm boar Soap: Proraso red Razor: Gillette New LC Blade: 1948 Gillette thin Post: Thayer rose After: Avon wild country
blade was much less plucky after stropping and in the new lc
found the boar on my last antique outing never had a 26mm or the handle shape so I ponyed up the eight bucks plus it seemed pretty densely packed. Someone used it quite a bit 'cause it was already pretty soft. the brush did confirm that I am a ~20mm knot kinda guy
Brush: Omega 599 Super Badger 22/48 Soap: TFS Mandarino Tachibana Razor: Henson AL13 - Medium (their most aggressive version) Blade: Personna Platinum Chrome (1) ASL: TFS Mandarino Tachibana
A different sort of shave. I guess the Henson razor's meant to be used like a cartridge… and because I didn’t press hard enough I only got a DFS+. (Early days.)
Instead of immediately replacing the vaulting pole (96mm) handle with a shorter (and lighter) one, I decided to do an OE shave. There were a few places where it got in the way, but it wasn't anywhere as bad as I thought it might be.
I'm not quite sure why I pressed the buy-it-now button... but as I love experiments I'll continue with it for a while, for sure. The Henson sales talk is obviously directed at cartridge users, but that didn't stop me pressing the damn button.
It's so good having RAD bad.
One thing I was highly impressed with was FedEx. They picked the razor up in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada... next stop Memphis, Tennessee, USA... then on to the UK and delivered to my door today 2½ days later! That HAS to be a record.
