Something to try to reduce acne

If you have acne it may be due to your skin getting too dirty between the previous time you washed your face. At least this is the hypothesis I am going on for myself right now.

If I shower and shave in the morning I will lather my face at night anyway to clean it (without shaving). I think it is improving my skin and reducing acne.

Maybe a lot of you already do this, but I just wanted to share the idea.

BTW I am not sure if it is 100% working to reduce acne for myself but I think it is so far.

Try this first. Use an alum block, its antiseptic and is great for the skin. You can use it several times a day with no problem, but morning and before bed are best. And of course after you've shaved. :thumbup1:

Cool, I will look into them. I heard though that they leave a residue on your face?

Question - have you been diagnosed by a dermatologist as having 'acne', or are you just refering to breakouts/pimples in general? Two very different conditions with different treatments, you need to be sure about what you're dealing with.

Oh I didn't know that, I am talking about breakouts. Sorry for the confusion.

fyi, people commonly refer to acne as pimples. They are one and the same. And acne typically arises in breakouts. Little whiteheads or blackheads are the non-inflammatory component. Red papules and pustules, which sometimes can form cysts which scar, this is the inflammatory component. If you only have the non-inflammatory component, you can often get by quite well by treating it with over the counter benzoyl peroxide wash or cream, once or twice daily. Also its important to avoid all oil containing products (oil-free only) on the affected skin, usually the face and back. Glycerin in water is ok, and wont worsen acne if you need some type of moisturizer. If you have inflammatory acne, generally that is going to need some prescription therapy, likely an antibiotic, which you will need to see a doctor about. Hope this is helpful, Pete

I had bad (and I mean pizza face bad) acne until I was a sophomore in HS.

You might try cutting down the meat in your diet or cutting out other fat.

The "cure" for me, after seeing several dermatologists and trying some nasty "solutions", was neutrogena salicylic acid face wash twice a day every day, no matter what and LET IT SIT for 5 minutes (or until it's tingled for a while) before you wash it off.

It all depends on how bad it is.

Good luck, I understand how much it can suck.

The only thing that really helped me with my light to medium acne was a BPO treatment. All the other regimens, including drugstore stuff like Clearasil, failed miserably...

I had acne very bad had to take that prescription stuff Acutane (dunno if spelled right) it's supposed to shrink your oil glands or something in that matter. Worked for me.
