What's new

Something nice for the weekend?

I am looking for a really luxurious cream or soap to use on weekends.

I am fairly new to wet shaving but am starting to settle into various habits- I have been face lathering with Palmolive or Valobra sticks on weekdays and I like the subtle scent for work and also find face lathering quicker (plus great lather from both of these and fairly cheap).

I want something more interesting for the weekend that I can bowl lather. I have been using TOBS sandlewood which I like and gives a good shave, but want something with a more complex fragrance. Price not so much of an issue (as long as not rediculous). I was thinking of Jermyn St?

Try Eaton College, and get the splash as well. One of my go to combos on the weekend. Wonderful scent, and of course the reliability of TOBS.

Special? How special? Penhaligon's or Floris special? or just average special like Truefitt & Hill?

^ Pens BB is a great w/end, special occasion cream. thick and creamy lather, great scent, not overpowering.

If you like genuine lime, please try Castle Forbes Lime. It is a superb cream thats easy to bowl lather and for the 200mg jar you get,its not too expensive. My other suggestion would be the marvelously luxurious Italian cream, XPEC.However,it is rather expensive ! You would not be disappointed with either of these creams,IMO. Oops,I just saw a keyword in your statement: Complex scent. The CF Lime(or Lavender)is not complex. Just straight lime or lavender.

Thanks Turtle- The penhaligon cream looks good- think the English Fern may sound better (i've got a slight patchouli addiction). Floris elite sounds good as well. May need to find somewhere to smell some of these before ordering!

Penhaligon's shave creams are out of this world wonderful in performance and scent, the only problem is that the English Fern scent is only offered as a shave soap I believe.... and I've heard the Pen's shave soaps are pretty subpar latherers (I've never tried one, so take this for what it is.... a second hand opinion). The Floris soaps on the other hand I can say lather quite nicely and are under rated in my opinion. The Floris soap scents are spectacular as well. Elite is my favorite. I don't care for the dry down of the Floris No. 89 cologne, but the shave soap and cream is very nice. Floris JF is sort of an aquatic fougere type.... similar to Creed Green Irish Tweed, but not as good IMO.

I'd recommend Acqua di Parma if you are going to spend Pen's or Floris kind of money..... that's just me though.
