Soft Soap

I am ready to purchase Cella Crema Da Sapone, but am curious as to what is meant by a " soft soap " ? I have read this about Proraso as well. Would someone please explain the diffrence between a soap and soft soap ( and cream as well if need be ) ? Is there a different method of making lather ?

Thanks.

As far as Cella (and Valobra) are concerned, this means a firm putty-like consistency. Proraso seems (to me) more like a viscus cream, sorta like toothpaste.

I am currently using both Proraso and Cella and they are not at all hard puck-like disks. Both are soft enough to easily mold and shape if you chose to put them in other containers.

However, the main differences between them are:
- Proraso is a glycerin soap and Cella is tallow.
- Proraso has a menthol scent and Cella has an almond scent.
- Proraso texture is more cream-like, Cella on the other hand is a little denser and, as RichGem has said, is more like putty.

I have been a user of Proraso for a long time and I like it a lot. I have recently read Jim's lather tutorial (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=21136) and have had some great lather with the Proraso, although I lather directly on my face and I don't use a mug. I have only had one shave with the Cella so far and the lather was great using the same technique.

Soft soap simply means that you should lather it as a soap (go at it with a wet brush, dissolve some and build elsewhere instead of squeezing out some in a bowl or your brush), but that its consistency is soft (like clay or silly putty) instead of hard.

Soft soaps are always a delight to work with.

Most soft soaps are tallow based and fairly easy to lather.
They provide great results and leave your skin soft and smooth.
Anyway, don't care for what we say here, go ahead and get that Cella soap working; you'll surely treat yourself.

On a sidenote, I prefer the P160 to the Cella (just in terms of the rendered lather/shave), but can understand that some get offended by the sweet/intoxicating marzipan scent. Let it air-out and everything will be just fine in about 3 weeks.
Oh, My P160 is the tipo duro (hard type) which is already really soft, just like putty (think of almond scented Play-Doh!!); I've never tried it but I guess the tipo morbido (soft one) must be very very (that is TOO) soft.

Then you most assuredly have the tipo morbido. P.160 tipo duro is somewhat malleable, true, but you need a rolling pin for it, and it breaks apart if you try to flatten it.

OK, call me dumb then, but I ordered a full kilo, brand new, and the package says "TIPO DURO"!! :glare: ...

No offense though, these were just my 2 cts.
BTW, mine would never break apart as it is soft, greasy like and I really do NOT imagine it drying out...

Maybe something to do with our respective latitudes...:lol::lol:

You got a fresh kilo in the original packaging? Like this?

?

Then you obviously have stronger hands than me, and are able to squeeze solid soaps into whatever form you please. Remind me never to meet you in a dark alley in a shady neighbourhood then. The funny thing is that I was able to compare both soaps up close at Paul Kox's shop in the Netherlands, and used a sample which was obviously taken from the morbido:

which is definitely the one I'd say has putty-like consistency. You can already see this in the image. The duro reminds me of Arko soap. Of course, the possibility that you got a kilo of morbido in a duro container cannot be completely eliminated: there are no markings on the inner packaging to my knowledge, and both varieties smell absolutely identical.

Uhm.... I use up about 20 to 30 grams of soap per month (I'm not one to economise), so I guess a kilo would last me between 2 and 4 years.
