Smell of Tabac (Does It Have a Smoky Aroma)?

Hey everybody,

I am going to ask a really, really dumb question here so I apologize in advance for it. I have been reading many great things about Tabac soap and was thinking of getting it as possibly my first soap. My issue: the scent. Does (as its name would seem to suggest) it have any hint of smoke about it (does it smell like a pack of cigarettes)? I absolutely hate the smell of cigarette smoke (pipe too - only not as much) and I'm worried that I might hate Tabac because of it.

If anyone can allay my fears (or just laugh me off of the forum because of the ridiculousness of this question) I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Michael

To me Tabac smells like Tabac. I'd best describe it as a combination of tobacco and smoke. The scent is very strong in the beginning but settles down with time.

Smells like tobacco to me too but not like a nice cigar or bowl of pipe tobacco. It smells more to me like old smoke...like a jacket that's been worn out to the bar or the hand of somebody who smokes. That plus cheap cologne. (Not that I go around sniffing smokers' hands or anything). Not a fan of this scent.

I think you will have to try it or not try it! Everyone seems to smell what they want to in it. I've even seen people here say they can smell sheep in Michael's Wool Fat. Seems people only smell what they want to in something. Good or bad. :wink2:

I don't get any smoky smell at all - to me it's a sharp floral aroma. I think if you have a preconceived idea of what something will smell like, you will probably get that when you smell the actual product. When I got my Tabac I didn't even make the connection with tobacco (duh!), so I wasn't looking for any sort of smoke or tobacco fragrance.

Even if you don't like the scent you can be rest assured that you will have a top quality soap that will provide great comfort and protection.

its (to me) the scent of the plant, rather than smoke. Jolly nice indeed

I agree - and I think that is what scent's creator (the famous perfumer Arturo Jordi-Pey) was trying to do, though personally I feel that the floral elements of the scent are actually more dominant. Think more of the smell of a freshly opened pouch of moist pipe tobacco rather than the smell of the tobacco actually being smoked. I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke but I love the smell of Tabac.
Though this review is about the cologne rather than the soap, I think the description of the scent is pretty accurate.

A soap maker would be pretty dumb to make a product that smells of Tobacco smoke - I don't understand how anyone would smell that from it at all. If so, I think that has more to do with the power of suggestion that it's described to have a tobacco smell, and that if people don't like the smell, they associate it with burning tobacco.

But to me it smells like sharp floral soap. As a reformed roll your own'er, it does have a whiff of fresh dried tobacco about it - as said a few posts up.

I pick up no Tobacco notes at all, and if it smelled like smokers I would run away, as that is one of the most disgusting smells ever. Mostly I detect a heavy floral aroma. :tongue_sm

I never made the Tabac = Tobacco connection until I saw it mentioned on this board.

I think the truth likely lies somewhere between these two descriptions.

I guess someone could get that smell from it - but like the others here I would say it is a floral smell with that old-fashioned hand made soap aroma. It is a pleasing scent, I keep it by my desk and bask in its glory :w00t:

Everyone will have their own interpretation of how tabac smells (to me it smells like flowers), the best bet would be to pickup a refill or sample (if possible) and try it.

No, tabac doesn't smell like that. It's kinda nice actually. I was anxious to smell it when I got it. I was worried that I would not like it, based on some opinions posted on B&B. It was the first item I checked out when I opened the package. And I loved it.
It's great. Worth a try!

No tobacco scent to me either.

It is a kind of "kitchen sink" melange of fragrances.
It's all in there..Musk, floral, vanilla, spice, woody.

One of kind, love it or hate it, products. I love it! The after shave too!
