Slight difference in 1914 patent Ever Ready razors

I'm not sure if this has been documented yet or not.

I have here two 1914s, and the "patent pending" razor has curved edges on the blade tray while the "patented march 24/14" razor is straight.

Also, the blade stops are different. The march 24/14 one has stop similar to the 1912s, while the patent pending one has them further out like you see on some lather catchers.

Resurrected thread, six years since last posted.
Additional question- do the variations of the of the 1914 (Patent Applied for vs Patented) shave about the same or do they differ as with the 1912 earlier/later Damaskeenes..?
I know there are some few alterations of design of the razor over the years- though I might be wrong on that assumption.
Thanks

I just got one of the early ones with the Patent Pending stamp. It is definitely more aggressive than the two Patented ones that I have tried, which I actually found to be quite mild; however, my daily shavers are a Micromatic and a 1924, so most razors seem pretty mild to me. The earlier 1914 that I have I think I could say is at least in the ballpark of the MMOC and 1924. Hope this helps.

Do you fellas consider the '24 to be aggressive? I find it very smooth and user friendly, a truly fine shaver.

Mr.T, The 1914 is more aggressive IMHO But saying That it gives Me the closest and very comfortable shave.
when You get a chance to try it some day you will see what I'm talkin bout .
I shaved with her today ,so it is still fresh in My mind and on My Face

How does the MMOC compare to the '14? You don't have Clog Pruf do you?

1914 all the way a better shaver.IMHO . No clog proof. The MMOC is a nice razor The 1914 is a NICE RAZORRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, She sings to Me when I shave with Her, The overall exp is much more fun . The audio feed back is just so much louder.
and since I put a Ball End handle on Her it feels great in My hand $IMG_5649.jpg$IMG_5653.jpg$IMG_5651.jpg

Another difference is the cover spring.

The pat pending has a funky link type set-up.

Though not a great pic there is also a difference in the side humps placement.

On the regulars it's flush with the bottom edge and the pending sits up higher.

Shaving wise I don't notice any real difference. All my 1914s are ultra-aggressive but I personally prefer them to the MMOC as well. While not for the faint of heart the 1914s are much smoother and less irritating than the MMOCs I've used.

One of the true classics of the early safety razors.

I own both of these razors also and I really can’t tell the difference. There may be a slight one but it is no where near the difference than say a 1914 and a 1912 or 1924.

I only have one. It has the patent date, but is built more like the patent pending with the small blade stops. So I can't say if there is a difference in the heads, but from all the examples of 1912s I have. I would guess the handle would make much more of a difference to me, than any slight variation of the head.

I will say of the more aggressive ones I have (1914, 1924, and MMOC) it is the one I reach for the most often.
