Single ring value

So at the moment I have two mint/near-mint single rings without cases and want to sell one. The prices vary sooo much on the BST that i'd like to have an actual expert opinion on the value. One is from 1905 and the other is from the 20's I believe. Pictures to come later today

The first one would have to be from later than that. The Single Ring handle wasn't introduced until 1906. That said, you are correct in the wide variance in Single Ring pricing. It is not a well defined market, therefore it is virtually impossible to state an opinion on value. I have seen some sell for ridiculously low prices because the sellers don't see them as mainstream razors. I have also seen them go for ridiculously high prices because the sellers think that just because they are old that they are rare.

If I had to venture a guess I would place a mint to near mint #102 cap Single Ring anywhere from $30-$40 with the higher end being nearer the 1906 date. This is, of course, for the razor alone. The post August 1921 #102-A cap Single Rings would be a bit lower, even if they are rarer given that they cannot be dated by serial number. Also, I don't see much differentiation between the Silver and Gold plate versions.

To a collector the post August 1921 #102 cap Single Rings might have extra appeal based upon their rarity, but you would have to actually find a collector that needed one for some reason.

Nope. No plating issues at all on either one. The only issue on one is a crack that's so fine, I didn't even see it at first. These razors are usually cracked, I know, but this crack is extra fine. I'm guessing that even that slight crack drops the price as well, but that's ok. These razors are AMAZING shavers

Actually, there is some plating loss on the top of the inside tube of the uncracked one. These are so beautiful for nearly 100 year old razors that I don't mind very much. One of these will be up for sale/trade very soon. Along with a fatboy or two...and some other stuff...

I like my Single-Ring but never use it as it looks a bit scabby on the counter. I do intend to get it replated though and then it'll add a real touch of class.

I just picked one up this past weekend and am curious about its value as well. It is a 1906 I think, serial #469074, the case is in very good condition. In the "Sharp" blade holder there was an inspection ticket marked Feb 5 1906. The razor could use a shine but the handle is not cracked. Sorry for the poor pic.

Cheers,
David

Early barrel handles didn't have cracking problems. Those problems came bout on the pocket edition composite handles.
