Simpson Ehsan

Hello everyone...My name is Mike and I'm a face lather-er. My weaknesses are Mitchell's Wool Fat soap, Valobra & Irisch Moos Shave Stick, and Castle Forbes cream.

I'm contemplating purchasing a Simpson Ehsan and noticed that several gentlemen on this board have bought them lately and I'm curious what your thoughts are on the brush?

More importantly, I was about to pull the trigger on a Duke 2 when I found out about the Ehsan and I'm trying to justify the extra $30 since my previous brush purchase was a Shavemac D01 that set me back $135.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

I bought the Ehsan a couple of weeks ago to replace a Duke 3. Let me say that I really liked the Duke 3 but had another brush very similar to it so decided to let it go. I debated between the Ehsan and a Polo 8. Two weeks later I have yet to use the Ehsan. Not sure about the handle and how it feels in my hands. It is a lovely looking brush and I am sure will perform very well. For now I will use some of my recent boar acquisitions and probably try to find one of the Simpson Eagle brushes that were made for the B&B to be my go to badger brush. Good luck on your quest.

What is about the handle that you are not so sure about? Is it the weight or balance? Just curious because I went ahead and pulled the trigger today.

don't have the Eshan, but have tried 3 2-band simpsons...what are you looking for in a brush? (i.e. backbone, soft tips, scrubby)

I have had the Ehsan for about nine months and I think that it is a great brush and a good value. I am very fond of the feel of the two band Super Badger. I have used it on both soaps and creams and find that it performs exceptionally well with both. It has a very well balanced feel in my hand and the size of the knot is excellent in my opinion. I primarily face lather and find that the feel of this brush is exceptionally nice. I think that you will enjoy this brush very much.

Best regards,

Doug

Did not mean to sound negative about the brush. The hair is absolutely lovely and it is a real piece of art. Personally I do not like the shape of the handle in my hand and I hate to even say that. I may give it another look this weekend and see what happens. I have several boar brushes that arrived a few days prior to the Ehsan and they have kept me occupied and satisfied for the last two weeks.

I didn't take it negatively...I was just curious. One of the reasons why I chose this brush was because of the handle shape and length. I was looking at the Duke 2 but the handle is short and after seeing a picture of the Ehsan next to a Duke 3 (below), I knew I would not be happy with the length of the Duke 2 handle.
