Silvertip Fibre V2 VS Black Fibre

Hello Gents.

Since there is a new version of Silvertip Fibre brush (v2), how would you compare it to the Black Fibre brush? I'm interested especially in softness of the tips, if the new version is significantly softer than old one? Is black fibre still softer (I can't imagine softer tips than black fibre though)? Thanks for replies and sorry for my english :)

The V2 brush compares very well with the softness of the Black Fibre brush in terms of softness of the tips. You are right. It is hard to imagine softer tips. But the V2 brushes are at least the equal.

The V2 series, however, has significantly better backbone and density. Because the V2s have thinner fibers than the V1s, more can be packed into a given knot size, resulting in luxurious face feel and significantly greater backbone. The thinner fibers are also more flexible, which permits shorter lofts, more closely like those of natural silvertips. In my opinion, there is no finer synthetic brush currently on the market. That is likely to be the case for a long time to come. No other manufacturer (other than Edwin Jagger which uses Mühle synthetic knots in their brushes) will come close for a long time. If you are cost-conscious, the EJs are less expensive.

Connaught might not yet be selling V2s, but the site has by far the cheapest prices I've found on Muhle brushes. That's where I purchased my Muhle HJM black fibre brush, at just $25 delivered (to the U.S.). It's been a terrific brush (even with, for example, MWF and Pre de Provence), but it sounds like the V2s are even better.

Agree on the prices, they also show on the site which brushes are v2s. At this time, all 31K and 33K models in the Classic range are STF v2 brushes.

Thanks a lot! As for the availability of the V2 series, one day I asked one of the vendor in Poland whether they sell v2 or v1 version. They sent the question directly to the Muhle, which replied:
"we have worked on the fibres to improve the performance and since October 2012 only sell the refined quality which is slightly softer and thinner, allowing us to add more weight to the bundle. "
It looks like v1 versions are not already produced and these ones which are sold now are some left over units from the inventory, but i really doubt V1s haven't been sold out.
