Should silver be the most preferred metal for razors?

Because of silver's known antibacterial properties shouldn't more manufacturers consider using silver plate on their razors? When you consider that you often receive cuts and razor burn when you shave while you simultaneously drag your razor across your face, and you likely store the razor in a dark, humid location, silver seems like an ideal material.

I prefer the look of my silver razors over the nickel ones (and wouldn't mind the upkeep). If cost were the same, and if I ever replated, I would choose silver over nickel.... of course, as long as I was replating, I'd check into rhodium first.

Silver would be slightly more because it would go on top of the nickel plate.
Nickel is used like a primer on copper based alloys.
This is why the gold wears off the NEW, they weren't sealed with nickel but gold plated right on top of the brass/copper.

Considering that silver tarnishes and requires maintenance, I doubt this should be the metal of choice. Anti-bacterial properties are nice but in practice, it's not much real use in day-to-day shaving. How many of us can claim to have been infected by our own razors?

I was infected with RAD... but silver razors would only make the symptoms worse, I think :tongue_sm

No, silver tarnishes and is a relatively soft metal.

Antibacterial properties are nice, but they're not much of an issue with shaving. Razors usually are stuck in hot water and dragged through soap. Then when we're done, we almost always put an antibacterial on our faces.

I soak my razors in mar-v-cide after shaving, and use an alum block on my face.
I then rinse my face off after the alum dries, and splash on witch hazel. After that dries, I splash on an alcohol AS.

That said, I do like the look of a silver plated razor.

What are the benefits of Rhodium plating?

It is brighter/lighter - looks more like silver I guess, and it is tarnish resistant (more so than nickel). I believe that Rhodium is closely related to platinum.
