What's new

Should I get a vintage or new TI?

Wondering what yall have to say?

I hear the new TI is just as good, if not better?

Would love to try a vintage, and new, honed the same for comparison.

Since there is no guarantee of it being NOS, I almost feel like buying it NEW will guarantee me an untampered benchline.

I have seen a lot of clean straight razors on ebay come to me as something else, and with blue temper marks :cursing:! So I am leary of buying vintage.

I bought my first TI (pre carbonsong) 6/8 blonde horn for 150 bucks from classicshaving over 5 years ago. It was and is one of my favs. I almost cried when I contacted them to buy another only to find out they only had the carbonsongs now. I broke down and purchased a carbonsong 6/8 blonde horn. The new razor is prettier, but the old razor shaves better. The new razor has a wide bevel and the very edge is not ground as thin as my older one. They both take a wickedly sharp edge and are smooth shavers, but the newer model is more like shaving with a half hollow than a singing razor.

The new are pretty nice but I would avoid the C135 if possible. it will be a bit easier to hone and still hold a sweet whisker melting edge.
