I love the weight, balance, and head geometry of my L4 ball end Tech, and the relatively easy, mild shave it provides me is great: a fast DFS in three passes with little effort, perfect technique yields BBS results when I can take the time.
Well, sometimes I don't have as much time as I'd like but I still want my BBS, so this morning I shimmed my Tech and all I can say is WOW! For me, the added blade gap provided just enough flexibility in blade angle that I achieved excellent, irritation free BBS results in relatively little time. The shim made an already excellent little shaver into a champ.
EDIT: To create the shim, I simply snipped the sharp edges off a used Astra SP, maybe 1/16 of an inch on each side. I placed the shim on the base plate and the new blade on top. This increased the blade gap by the width of an Astra SP, which was perfect for me. I only used one shim, I might try two next week.
