What's new

Shimmed my Tech, holy moly!

I love the weight, balance, and head geometry of my L4 ball end Tech, and the relatively easy, mild shave it provides me is great: a fast DFS in three passes with little effort, perfect technique yields BBS results when I can take the time.

Well, sometimes I don't have as much time as I'd like but I still want my BBS, so this morning I shimmed my Tech and all I can say is WOW! For me, the added blade gap provided just enough flexibility in blade angle that I achieved excellent, irritation free BBS results in relatively little time. The shim made an already excellent little shaver into a champ.

EDIT: To create the shim, I simply snipped the sharp edges off a used Astra SP, maybe 1/16 of an inch on each side. I placed the shim on the base plate and the new blade on top. This increased the blade gap by the width of an Astra SP, which was perfect for me. I only used one shim, I might try two next week.

Good to hear. Now with that added blade gap go into shave wiki and find a similar blade gap then you'll know what to hunt down in case you ever get rad. Congrats.

Interesting, I've been thinking of doing that. What did you use to shim?, I've seen other people sometimes use a cut-down razor blade. How much did you shim?

what affect does the shimming have on the aggressiveness (or lack thereof)?

cpa did with the shim what a Fat Boy does with the adjusting mechanism, he raised the blade edge away from the safety bar, (in this case the thickness of the blade).

I just added a shim to my Rimei razor and I got to say wow too. I thought I was going to get cut up but that didn't happen. I got a nice more efficient shave and very close shave with less work. Cool!
