What's new

My worst razor may become one of my best.

I could never quite get along with my 1960 Gillette Tech after getting it this February.

Tried it with Astra SP and Feather. May have tried it with other blades as well, but I definitely used these two.

Just too mild. Too inefficient. Too many strokes to get BBS & resulting dull irritation.

It was one of my least used razors.

Well, just last week I pulled it our of retirement and put a fresh Perma-sharp in it.

So far, I had five perfect shaves. Clean, smooth, extremely comfortable and pretty efficient.

Tomorrow, I am going to put a different blade in. Most likely a Feather, as I distinctly remember using it with this razor in the past.

If I keep getting the same results, this is probably due to the change in technique, which is what I am hoping for. Otherwise, it may just really like Perma-sharps.

You've learned to shave! Congrats

After that right of passage maybe it's time to revise this thread::wink2:

Welcome to the club!

Like you, I am a late Tech convert. But since discovering its perfection, every time I shave with something else, I hear a voice in the back of my head saying I could have done it better with a Tech.

Well, today’s first shave with a fresh Feather was just as good, and better than the original shave with this Tech and a Feather, where as I recall I had to do more cleanup.

It seems that months of extensively using other vintage Gillette razors have helped me with instinctively finding the right angle with this one.

Mine would be the SS Lupo 72. I always found it to be just a touch too heavy and aggressive as I only have a medium beard, old man gray medium at that, so unfortunately it just sat in a drawer, rarely used. Then I saw another post where a fellow Lupo owner got the Titanium Halo handle for his Lupo and it changed the game for him, making the Lupo a much more balanced and easier instrument to use.
The exact same was true for me, That Titanium handle made all the difference in the world, and now the Lupo 72 is one of my regular rotation razors!
My thanks to the B&B member who suggested getting a Titanium Halo handle for the Lupo, your recommendation and advice was spot on!

there is not a lot of problems in this world that can't be solved with a titanium handle. everyone should treat themselves to a Timeless Crown Ti handle if they have not already. :biggrin1:
