Shaving in shower

Greetings! I am about to embark on my first DE razor voyage. But, as far as wet shaving is concerned, this has been my routine for as long as i can remember, even while i was using cartridges. Not only did shaving while in shower kill two birds with one stone, I also noticed at a young age that doing so provided a much more pleasant experience removing my whiskers. I prefer a hot shower, not boiling, but hot enough to produce steam; which in turn softens my skin and beard.

I guess my question is two parts: Does anyone else shave WHILE showering? And, if so, would using a pre shave oil be redundant, and simply unecessary?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have been shaving in the shower with NO MIRROR for years, but using disposables. When I switched to DE shaving about a month or so ago, I decided that I NEEDED a mirror, as the DE blades are so much sharper than the disposables. I got a cheap ~$12 fog free on Amazon that mounts on a suction cup stuck to the shower wall. Works great! I do not do any preprep other than to shower.

Now I am trying to learn to use a SR, now that is another story!

yea..dont try that in the shower..lol!..I used to use DE in the shower..with heavy razors..worked better..but man SR's are great!

Shaving in the shower with a straight every night before bed.
Fusion for the headshave, straight for the face.

I've been a shower-shaver for 20 years with carts.
Cooler time of year, I'll shave my head in the shower and then use a HOT scuttle and bowl-lather in front of the sink for my face, but now in the summer, I prefer to shave in the shower.

Have been a long time shower shaver here. A Green Rubber Marvey Shaving Mug is a must imo if you intended to save water while shower shaving. While I use DE's SE's and my Trac II when traveling in the shower, I use my straight at the sink on weekends. I got to hand it to Rich for his immense bravery in using his straight in the shower. If Okie Jr. isn't still around, then there's no reason for Okie Sr. to be... Know what I'm sayin? :001_smile

Daily shower shaver here. I shower & shave at the gym 5 days a week, so it's hand lathering for me. The trick with the mirror is just to get it warm by running it under the water if it starts to fog. No pre-shave oil for me, but creams definitely perform differently when you hand-lather. Proraso works good, TOBS Jermyn St, Arko Regular & some others. KMF doesn't work for me, either do most of the real cheapies.

Shaving in the shower often for many years now. The only problem is you can't get your sideburns shaved neatly without using a mirror. GF does her legs in the shower too (or sometimes gets me to do them for her)

Been a shower shaver for twelve years after I started using a brush and Shaving Cream tube from The Body Shop. As stated above, it's just easier and cleaner.....don't have to worry about keeping the sink basin dry/clean.

Have used this type of "Powerlock" suction cup fog-free mirror for years. Attaches to the most stubborn shower tile. They do eventually lose their fog-freeness but just a quick splash of warm water keeps 'em clear. In Houston we have hard water so I replace it about ever 3 years or so when the water stains get too bad.

What also helps is a tension shower caddy like this one. The key here is to place it on the other side of the shower away from the shower head....that keeps it fairly dry from direct spray. I keep my razor/brush stand & mug on the top shelf and put everything else down below.

The way of saving water is not to keep it running while shaving. I have a small plastic bowl similar to this one that I fill with hot water and use as it to clean my razor while shaving. In-between passes I empty it out and refill with fresh hot water. I also dip my brush in it while I shower before the shave.

Thus, when I'm done showering and shaving all I have to do is dry off once and go about my day.

I've tried using the sink again as a DE shaver and it just doesn't work for me. I'm always fighting a dry face....in the shower stall its always nice and steaming so my face and beard stays moist and soft.

I've shaved in the shower 30+ years now. I've only been wet shaving for a couple of months now. I tried shaving at the sink and I get a much better shave in the shower. My beard is is softer in the shower, the bathroom stays cleaner also. So far I have been face lathering with 1305 and proraso green soap, works great for me

I have been wondering about that as well, I have shaved in the shower since I first started shaving about 15 years ago. But since I am switching over to DE I was wondering about shaving in the shower. I will have to check into one of those mirrors, I usually just use a small handheld one, but one that sticks to the side of the shower would be great.

Make sure you get a mirror with the trademarked "Powerlock" as it has a built in method of sticking to anything.

When I need to scub the tiles I simply pull it of and resuction when I'm done!

To the OP. Try this:

Hop in the shower....wash hair.
Apply pre-shave to face and let sit.
Wash self and rinse
Prep lather in shower friendly mug
Lather up and go to town.
Enjoy best shaves ever

Living at the beach, I have an outdoor shower. Every now and then I bring a mirror out there and shave. Very nice. Something about being outside in the sun, esp post beach time.

I would suggest that you learn at the sink, then move back to the shower once you have your basic technique down pat.
Showers play havoc with lather, and you're going to be making a lot of lousy lathers at first anyways..... double whammy.

I personally never have seen a cetnik that shaved. Or showered for that matter. Sheesh, I'd hate to be anywhere near ravna gora during their meetings, primarily due to the odor.

As for your shaving questions, you should definitely shave over a sink. A quick swipe to the jugular and voila!
