Shave Stick Crazy

Alright Gents and Ladies,
After buying La Toja and Arko shave sticks from some great B&Ber on the BST (I'm sorry I don't remember who!) I've gone a little shave stick crazy. I just think they are a fun way to apply soap :biggrin:... I'm trying to figure out which sticks are available so I can make an informed decision as to what to buy next. I'll start the list with the ones that I know, and maybe you guys can help me out. Add to the list or just let me know which ones you enjoy most. Here are the ones I know:

  • La Toja
  • Arko
  • Lea
  • Bea
  • Speick
  • Irisch Moos
  • Tabac
  • Palmolive
  • Erasmic
  • Valobra
  • Wilkinson Sword

Yes, I very much like shaving sticks myself. For the last 3 weeks or so, I've used only shave sticks. There fun to use and they are great.
I have speick, valobra and palmolive. All great!

TOBS makes shave sticks in St. James and Sandalwood scents.

Kell's and Ogallala also make shave sticks.

For me Speick and Moos have been top notch. I enjoy using both.

Right now I'm leaning toward buying some a Lea and Palmolive stick. I'd love to get some Irish Moss, but at somewhere close to $17 a stick, I'd rather just buy a few La Toja or some Mama Bears.

In terms of other soaps, QED and Mama Bear both make glycerine soap shave sticks. In addition to milling hard soaps into stick format, you can melt any glycerine soap into stick form - I really like the stick I made from a bunch of TGQ samples.

That being said, why limit yourself to stick format - I use lots of pucks of soap like shave sticks, including:

1) Czech & Speake travel soaps;
2) Williams;
3) St. Charles;
4) Col. Conk

Basically, you can use any soap the same way you would a stick.

Yeah, but I'm really liking the stick format right now, for no other reason than it is different.

Also I found this for your reading and viewing pleasure!

So far I have only used the Arko stick and was very impressed with it. The next stick to try is Speick and any others I can find.

Avoid non-tallow Erasmic (current version) like the plague. It's disappearing act is better than David Copperfield's. Buy something else. Now that's out of the way, I really like IM, La Toja, Speick and Palmolive.

"very impressed" would not be the two words I'd use to describe Arko, but YMMV is suppose.

So, I finally caved and got both a Lea shave stick and 2 European Palmolive sticks. I'm excited :biggrin1:. I tried to order one of those hemp shaving sticks, but I didn't feel like paying $30 in shipping. I guess I know how the Aussies feel now.

For everyboy's benefit I thought I'd mention that Joe, over at ShaveABuck.com, has ended the U.S. drought on Palmolive shave sticks (the tallowy, good, European ones), not to mention he is the official U.S. distributor of Lea and Bea shave sticks, creams, and balms from Spain.

I really enjoy that site. He has a lot of stuff that is difficult to find or that is quite a bit more expensive elsewhere (Godrej, Lea, Bea, Rapira blades, Figaro, Wilkinson Sword, the full range of Arko...). It's a great site, please patronize it.

Good stuff!!

Mennen (now labelled as Palmolive but same stick) great thing...

Fidjit also had a Mennen tallow stick from Fiji... Even better!!

I've got a vintage Williams stick that is a rose scented lather bomb. You see older sticks on Evilbay from time to time.

Has anybody transfered an existing, new stick to one of the vintage containers?

I've tried the Palmolive, Tabac and La Toja sticks...all are excellent. Arko is next on the list to aquire.
