Shave Brush Travel Holder

Can I obtain one at a brick and mortar store? I did not see any at the AOS after quickly visiting the store yesterday. Target, Walmart, etc.? Any recommendations? I have an Omega 48 and I have been told that it is big brush. Thanks in advance.

Something like this:

I don't remember where mine came from, but it was mail order. With shipping, it seems like it was about $15.00.

Since then I have found another, possibly better, source. McMaster-Carr. They are a mail order only store. After finding it at McMaster-Carr, I checked Granger with no luck.

There is a whole range size of these things. They are used for packaging. They are especially popular for shipping various small parts of one kind or another. They are also sometimes used to ship tooling to machine shops.

Here is their web site:

You will find what you are after under shipping supplies then tubes then adjustable length tubes. I think the one you want is part # 2108T42. Typing that part # in the search field at the first page of the above link will take you directly to it.

You can see there are other sizes if you want to try something slightly different from the one you already found. Be aware that you need to drill a ventilation hole or two or three. Mine came with one and I added two more on the other end.

McMaster-Carr is a stand up company, well liked and respected in the business community. The only negative to ordering from them is that there is no way to know the shipping charges until they bill your credit card. The businessmen I know that regularly order from them are not worried about the shipping charges so I'm guessing they are reasonable. You might want to try calling them before placing an order.

I'm considering ordering two more, one that would be a better fit for my small travel brushes and one that could handle my Beasts.

Take your brush or at least the measurements and visit your local pharmacy. They should be able to sell you (or give you) a prescription bottle that will hold your brush. Poke holes in the lid and you are good to go. Perhaps not as pretty as your example or the other in the post above but perhaps not as expensive either.

You can get that Muhle travel tube at WestCoastShaving.com or Shaving.ie. Unfortunately, they're both out of stock.

However, they are in stock at RoyalShave.com for $6.95.

Royal Shave also has this plexiglass tube. I've been wanting to see if it's worth the price or how big it is.

The Muhle travel tube is pretty big. It fits a lot of brushes but won't fit a Simpson Chubby 2.

Try this, just pick up say parsley, so the container wouldnot have an unpleasant smell. The bigger container can hold a big brush like Omega 49, smaller one will hold Semogue 830 or smaller.

If you have a smaller brush you can use a perscription bottle with some vent holes drilled. I use one for my simpsons special

As said earlier I went to the pharmacy window and told her what I wanted it for and she gave me one with cap, take your brush with you.

I realize I'm gravedigging a bit, but thanks for the tip about the pharmacy drug vials! I measured my brush (Tweezerman - roughly 2" x 4") and went to my pharmacy. When I asked if I could buy two of the largest vials they carried, I got a funny look, but the tech gave me both at no charge. Now, I just need to track down someone with a drill... :)

Art supply stores also have sizes of tubes that can be cut to size (length) but the pharmacy tube or the spice container are ingeniously cheap.

I went a different DIY route though :

I've been looking for this for ages! Thank you!

I got mine from the Pharmacy as well. The gave me the two largest prescription bottles they had. Depending on the size of your brush you might well need the largest one. The next size down will only fit a very small brush. I offered to pay for them, but they wouldn't take my money and gave them to me for free. Drilled some holes in it and it works great. I just need to find a way to modify it so that I can use it to hold the brush upside down while it's drying as well. I don't have to travel much for work so it's not a big deal.

I used an old pill bottle and drilled a few holes in the top. I need a bit taller one so next time I travel I'll swing by the pharmacy and see if they can hook me up.

Nothing like reviving an old thread. I've found that the thicker cardboard wrapping paper tubes cut to length generally work fairly well, though a few years ago I broke down and bought a small travel brush with a plastic case and screw on lid from Lee's Razors. It saves a little room in my toiletries kit. When travelling I shave first thing then shake the brush vigorously to get as much water out as possible, wipe it off with a towel and then put it on a table or chair in front of the heater/air conditioner and let that blow on it for a half hour or so while I shower, dress and pack up. That way the cardboard tube doesn't get wet. Its not as crush proof as a plastic case, but it keeps the bristles in good shape.
