Shark Super Stainless Blades - Pack of 5 URGENT HELP REQUEST FROM A NEWBIE!

Greetings!
I just received today my sampler pack including a small cardboard yellow/red package of 5 Shark Super Stainless Blades, individually wrapped in paper.
The cardboard box was not wrapped in shrink wrap or anything and was open on the right side (where the red colour is). Now, I am a bit paranoid regarding the blades and them being tampered with, so I wanted to ask, since I have never bought blades before, if this is normal, that the box isnt glued shut on that side, like say, the Astra package was. The three blade paper envelopes I looked at were glued shut, but still.... Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Hmmm. I think that its entirely possible that the package just wasn't glued enough, or was accidentally opened from the time it was made till it got to you. If I was gonna tamper with blades, I figure I'd glue the pack back together, but I'm a perfectionist like that ;P

Seriously, though, I get your concern. If you're really worried, trash 'em, what did they cost? Alternately, you could CAREFULLY disinfect them with a good long alcohol soak (out of their paper wrapper). Maybe other's will have better suggestions, but them's my two cents!

welcome to the board, BTW :)

Thanks a lot for the welcome and the quick reply, dougmac! I am glad you understand my concerns. The Dorco plastic cartridge also opens and closes easily, so it is also not apparent whether it has been opened before. I guess I am too accustomed to use of a product being apparent...

I've bought a lot of blades that come in a cardboard package that have arrived like this. In fact, in a 100 pack of Astras most often there are three or four that are open on one side. I never thought about them being tampered with, but agree with dougmac, washing them off or a dip in alcohol before use won't hurt a thing.

Does the wrapper for the blade not have a wax type of spot on the blade to keep it wrap on it like some others?

Dear Jay and dear Seadooer, thank you very much for your replies. I think I may have panicked there and want to apologize for that. Yes, there is a spot of wax on the paper keeping it shut. I just thought such hygienical products would be better packed and I am a bit of paranoid about that. I think I will go for the alcohol bath :biggrin1:

Thanks for the replies Mattymatt and Haggises!
Well, I dont know, maybe I watch too many B-movies...

Shark SS have a slot opening for a flap that keeps them attached to the 100 blade (20x5 packs) retail display card, same as the Lord blades (same company). If the pack you got was simply pulled carelessly off a 100 blade card rather than being slid carefully, that slot, which has the package perforations directly on either side of it, and indeed forms the major part of the package opening once the perforations have been torn, will open the package up.

Thanks krusty! I saw that flap in one of the reviews. My pack lacks one. Maybe that was it! I remembered I have some Dettol. Maybe I will use that to be sure xD

The flap is part of the large 20-pack display card, not part of an individual pack of blades. When you pull the pack off the display card carelessly, the flap will tear open the pack of blades. I wouldn't use anything on your blades, as I'm sure they are new and untouched. Wiping them down with anything will remove or damage any coating they may have. Some coatings are soft & chemical-based like teflon, and are rather thin and delicate, which is why the blades can feel quite different after only a couple of shaves.

Well, that depends on your imagination, doesn't it? No, but seriously, I would have no desire to shave with used blades. Especially since things like Hepatitis Type B persist on them and vaccination does not give 100% protection...
