Secret to Pinaud Lilac Vegetal Use

I've discovered the combination that makes Pinaud's Lilac Vegetal aftershave/"body splash" smell really nice on my skin - emphasis on "my" because everyone is different.

As an after-shower body splash -

1. Use White Rain's Ocean Mist body wash (that $1 crap on the bottom shelf at Shop Rite) - I've tried other, much higher-quality body washes and then this doesn't work!

2. Let body dry for five minutes afterward.

3. Liberally apply Lilac Vegetal all over. Rub it in really well on the arms, chest, and back.

Don't believe it? Try it for yourself. The result, as far as I'm concerned, is astounding. It smells quite good. Powdery and light. For me it actually takes all the negative controversy about LV right out of the equation. But then again, I've always liked it ;)

I am very happy for you:lol::lol::lol: no sarcasm intended. seriously, none at all... no, I mean it. I don't mind the scent myself. I've learned to let it breath, like a bottle of wine. Then move about freely...

kind regards,

I find if you dance a tango with the bottle prior to splashing on, you get the "good" Veg. If you don't dance at all, or if you dance a jig, you get the "bad" Veg.

Man, you guys seriously.....

In some of my RN classes in college (anatomy, patho, adult health) I learned that inside our noses is the nasal membrane.

There are many nerve receptors in here (dogs have a much bigger membrane, hence their massively more sensitive noses)

They taught us that our olfactory (nose) nerve synapses are really only stimulated when they first come into contact with a stimulus, the longer the same stimulus is there (ie: scent) the less the particular stimulus is noticed, and new stimuli are sent to the brain.

This is why when (I know this is dusgusting, but makes a good example) we use number 2 in the toilet, often times we get used to it.........even though we know it must reek....

Lilac Vegetal will do you like this dude's. I know some guys find this smell bearable, or they just don't have the synapses that others do, that's why I'm writing this.......but to a great many people this stuff smells exactly like the pee pee.

If you initially smell the pee pee and it goes away, chances are your membrane is just used to it, but it's still there to anyone in whose presence you waft. Or, maybe your brain just doesn't have the same urine association that others do, fine.

However, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention to my fellow men that there will be people who make this association. And it's for them I speak my peace.

Nice theory but it doesn't wash.

Aqua Velva smells the same 2 hours later as it does 30 seconds after you put it on.

I can smell clubman 12 -18 hours continuously with no scent change.

Lilac Vegetal is just a scent.

There's some that some like it, and some that don't. It's that simple.

There's no mysterious blocking of olfactory nerve cells going on, if there were you'd never have anyone compliment you on your Lilac Veg aftershave when you're out and about, because it would smell like pee to everybody initially, and I have had people compliment the scent.

Ok, so some people like it. I can live with that, but never say that no one ever tried to warn you.

Anyway, no the science is accurate.

molecules fit into recepter sites and we all have only so many give or take. Our brains associate differently is all.

Maybe some people have walked into that urinal that smelled exactly like the lilac vegetal somewhere in their past, so now the association is there. Others, who never happened into that urinal don't make the association, so the different (more pleasurable) molecule stimulants are obvious to you.

However, if you ever walk into that urinal, from then on you may find that your nose also focuses on this particular molecule in the lilac vegetal, and it becomes much harder, if not impossible to recognize beyond the putrid.

Here's a link to a site that gives probably a little too much detail of the process, but you will at least know I'm not making this up.

I believe you, I just think that is not what is happening with the Veg!!
It may be similar to the point raised by another that like the phenomenon with Asparagus, that only half the population is capable of smelling the enzyme produced in some people when they eat asparagus.
The issue there is not urine, it is the fact that some people cannot smell that chemical compound. I have no problem believing that there might be some that can not smell, or are super sensitive to a smell of some combined ingredients of the Veg.
But, even so, when decanted to a glass bottle, and on the skin, it is a fabulous scent in my opinion.

Ok, I will agree that these things and the Veg excel at their primary purpose, but others may not agree.

The urine comparison to Lilac Veg is a little tired to me - no offense to anyone - but IMO, seriously, if you were to sniff straight up pee (human or domestic pet's) side by side with aerated Lilac Veg, you'd choose Veg any day of the week. There's really no true similarity between the scents, especially not in terms of ammonia and various forms of excreted sodium. And although I'm sure there's someone out there who likes the smell of pee (I once met a woman who liked the smell of skunk . . . I know, I know,) any product that truly resembled that smell would never last as long as the Veg has.

That said, I would posit this: Lilac Veg is not for everyone, particularly not to be worn by everyone, because it does have a vegetal smell, somewhat akin to slightly soured or early-stage decomposing veg - but only if you smell it right out of the bottle, or apply liberally and sniff in the first few seconds. As with almost any commercial fragrance, you're really not supposed to judge it by sniffing it straight from the bottle. And also with any fragrance, you must give it a fair amount of time to settle in and work its magic. Eventually the questionable top notes organize themselves into a pleasant, somewhat powdery floral, that to my skin is made somewhat better (to my nose) by having skin freshly cleaned by the incredibly synthetic, 99-cent White Rain body wash.

I've worn Lilac Veg in close quarters with other people, and never once had anyone involuntarily wrinkle their nose or even seem to notice it much at all. So although I would never say it doesn't smell bad to many people, I'd have to view this fact as on par with any other smell out there - nothing's for everyone :wink2:

True too and well articulated. But in truth if we can't make fun of the Veg what is the world and B&B coming to?:001_smile

Reminds me of a old joke from my very early days in Minnesota... How do you cook Carp... On a shingle over a large fire.. When done throw away the carp and eat the shingle

Either you like the Veg or not
Either you like Carp or not

Well said and true my friend.

Well said and true also. I love the Veg and I'll pick fun at it with the best of them.

Ok, I said my peace....maybe I should have addressed that the association is urine.

However, it's not exactly a urine smell, but more the smell of a urinal.

The particular association I have is my high school football stadium visitor side urinals.

I think they really, really, over-cleaned the urinals, so it was kind of that lingering smell of where people missed combined with whatever cleaning product they used excessively in the area.....and the lack of any aeration, but the blistering Texas heat to really cook all these aromas together.........maybe even an unflushed toilet with some really strong type cleaning agent there.......

It's a cleaning agent combined with all those smells that I get with the Lilac Vegetal......maybe there is some urinal cleaning agent that uses the same ingredients.....

Anyway, I'm not just saying it smells like pee, sorry, it probably came out that way.

I'll stop my tirade now, as you guys like the stuff and I'm not going to be the guy who harps about this anymore.....I just bought the stuff the other day and am still a little disappointed by what my nose told me.
