Schick Ultra Platinum - made in Sweden

Hello all,
While browsing for shaving items in the small shops near where I live, I came across these blades. Since I was looking for blades (not that I NEEDED anymore) and they were only 90 Kshs ($1.12) for a pack, I bought a pack to try.

When I changed blades a little over a week ago, I loaded up a Schick Ultra Platinum in my 40's SS (my "test" razor) and gave it a spin. Initially, it felt as if the blade dragged a little - very little. However, after a few strokes on each side, the blade smoothed out very nicely. I finished with a close to BBS shave without any nicks or weepers. I was looking forward to the next day's shave - this time with a different razor.

Well, shaves 2-6 provided the same smooth, effortless result. However, these were true BBS as I had changed to my more "aggressive" razors in my rotation. Very nice indeed. When it was time for the 7th and final shave, I could begin to feel the tell tale tugging that signals a blade's life has come to an end. The shave, while not as smooth, was not so bad as to warrant changing blades "mid shave". I finished the shave, satisfied with the performance of this blade. I'll be buying a few more packs next time I visit that store to stock up. As in all things, ymmv. Any input from others who have used these would be appreciated.

Are these blades currently in production?

You ain't the only one asking that question. The packaging certainly wouldn't have been out-of-place in the 20th century. :001_unsur This may be an incredible score of NOS blades from the days we watched TV by candlelight. Or not.

That I don't know. I googled the name but came up with zilch. I'd be interested to know. If they're not, I'll likely be buying the rest of the stock locally and whatever else I can find.

That package is definitely NOS from the late 70's or early 80's at the latest. By the time I got to shaving age, they were in a black package with "Schick" in white and (other than the S) in lowercase letters. I wish I still had one of the packages so I could take a picture for you.

I have some Schick 'Platinium' made in the Netherlands. The dispenser is the same, the paper card looks different.

Well,
Today I went back to the little shop where I bought my first pack of the blades. I asked the owner where bought them from. He said that he bought them from a source in Mombasa. When I asked him if they were still in production, he, unfortunately, replied that they were not. His words were something like "Sorry, these aren't produced anymore. These are OLD STOCK".
So, there we have it. The answer - at least to the best of my knowledge at present. In case you're wondering, yes, I did buy more. In fact, I bought all 9 packs he had. He asked if I wanted him to have more brought in for me. I told him that would be great. So hopefully, I be able to stock up some more in the future.

When the Stainless craze first hit around 1963, some of the made in Sweden Schick DE blades were imported into the USA. I have some. They are just OK IMHO.....
