Schick Injector-First Shave Reflections

Thanks to a PIF by BigFoot I had my first Schick Injector shave and my first shave ever with a non-cartridge/disposable razor. I believe it is a G-1. Overall, a really great shave. I like the weight and balance and the way it feels in my hand. No blood or cuts so I imagine it is forgiving. My skin did feel a little more raw than usual but I blame this on technique. Nothing a little Krampert's frostbite could not cure. I was a bit tentative about pressure and angle but I imagine this will improve over time. I noticed you can really hear the scraping and felt a bit of tugging which I did not experience with the cartridges. Injecting the blade added a new dimension also. Very user friendly. Thus far I am sold, so goodbye cartridges for now.

I'm curious what your pre shave prep was and your choice of soap or cream.

I have a G type injector and had very good success from the get go. Its an easy, smooth shaver and on rushed mornings I will shower shave with my G type, 2 quick passes with just bath soap and I get better than expected results.

I'm glad your first shave went well and may your good results continue!

Wash face in shower. Wet face with warm water before face lathering with C.O bigelow cream using an Omega 48 brush. I apply cream to brush first than face lather.

DAY TWO: Much better. Reduced pressure and let the razor do the work. Also shorter strokes. One pass. Very smooth. Increased lather amounts. Tugging pretty much gone. I am amazed at hearing the scraping. I am new to this having only used cartridges previously.

Tugging can be reduced by using short rapid strokes. You want to "cut" your beard, not "mow" it down with long slow sweeping strokes that cover a long area. Chop chop chop works the best. Lock your wrist and move your entire arm from the shoulder. This may seem awkward at first but this way you keep a consistent blade angle through the entire stroke. Coming from carts you are used to flicking your wrist which is very wrong for blade shaving as the angle changes during your "flick"

To get a closer shave, use your off hand (the one not holding the razor) to stretch your skin where you are shaving. Practice this any time. Pull your skin with one hand and feel with the other. You will find out where to grab and which way to stretch. This should help stand your beard up so it cuts easier and closer. A good time to practice is around the dinner table, don't forget to ask for pointers from all in attendance :001_smile

Most sagacious and I will take heed.

NEW MANTRA: Lock wrist. Don't flick.

I don't often use the Schick injector, but it is indeed a fine razor and certainly very forgiving. When I have used it, it does produce a good clean smooth shave.

Injectors are great, and the easiest razors to use. If you can't shave with an injector, you should probably wear a football helmet whenever you go outdoors.

DAY THREE: Focused on not flicking like I did with the carts. Locked wrist and used short rapid strokes. Best shave of life to date. Really increased lather amounts. It helps in my humble opinion. Tomorrow I will attempt to stretch skin for closer shave although today was very close in my relative perception.

$garyg_D_IMG_5314.jpg In the face of, "shaving logic", here's the instructions! One of the things I like about injectors is that I can use pressure. Go know?!?!? Either way what a great razor! This pic is from B&B ShaveWiki on Injectors.

Muy interesente. I am finding that I can incorporate the plethora of advice from you gentlemen and with practice find my own unique style.

That's why so many things here are" YMMV"> lolol In the past month I have so enjoyed using this small shaving shaver with great results. I've had 10 shaves on a blade and probably could have gotten more. And they look neat too! Have fun! Oh and watch out for those tears!

I shall.

I really like shaving with injectors and I think the end result is great, but the stubble always seems to come back faster for me after an injector shave than any other type of razor.
