Hello,
I posted a few times with questions about topy's taps etc. Thanks to all who shared advice. Now I thought I would give back and share what I learned from my own experience. Here is my experience after applying a few DIY preventative maintenance products to my shoes.
What did I do? I bought the large Guard brand banana shaped taps for my heels from the ebay seller listed below. I also bought smaller #3 taps and "sole savers" from cobbler supplies.
What did I learn? Well I've only worn the shoes for about a week, but the adhesive on these products is really strong. I'll post a follow up after a month or so and let you all know how they hold up, but I really don't think I will need to put the nails in for either the heel or the toe taps. The taps really aren't as thick as I had imagined either. They look thick in the picture, but they are each about 3mm thick. The nails provided varied, but would be too long for the toe taps, so if you want to DIY with nails, you might want to request shorter nails.
Why sole saver instead of a topy? Well I've never worn a topy before, but I imagine a Topy would probably look a little better, and wouldn't require a toe tap. Downsides are that a topy is more expensive, and likely much more complicated for DIY. Why the sole saver? Because I work in a hospital (slippery) and don't want to fall on my ***. Also I imagine it will prolong the life of my sole and may save me a few bucks in the long run.
What would you guys think if you saw someone cross their legs and got a peak at a sole that looks like this? Way too much going on, or looks ok?
