Savile Row 3124 or Rooney 3/1

I am in the market for a third brush. I already have a Shavemac 429 and a Boreal 978, both of which I really like, even though they are very different.

I am considering either a Rooney 3/1 or a SR 3124.

I face lather and use both soaps (Tabac, AOS, Cella, IK) and creams (Fraser's, Proraso, Musgo, T&H).

Any particular preference?

Thanks!

I have both a 3824 and a 3/1.
They are very different brushes, it really depnds on what you are looking for - the SR should feel very similar to your Shavemac. The 3/1 has much more backbone and a much smaller bloom, but is still soft.

I have a 3/1 and am thinking of buying a 3124!

I find the 3/1 (mine is Super, at least that's what it says on the handle) to be dense, stiff and scrubby. I don't find it soft at all. I find my Simfix CH2 Best and Semogue 1305 boar to have softer tips. I don't know why some people say this brush is soft, maybe there is some variation between specimens.

It's great for face lathering soaps and creams, and if that is all you do then that is what I would recommend, you can't beat the quality and price. I presume you like a good invigorating facial massage from your brush?

However, if you ever fancy something softer and more luxurious, then I think it would be worth buying the 3124. It sounds like it would complement the 3/1 perfectly, they serve two very different needs, which is why I'm so tempted by one!

Yes, the 3/1 is a little hard to explain - it is very dense and stiff/backbone, but the tips of the hair are actually soft when you feel them. It just gets lost somewhat when you start lathering w/ such a dense brush. It definitely is at its best when face lathering and I think it would fit well between your Shavemac and your boar.

I'm not bashing the SR at all - in fact I have 2 myself (20 & 24 knots) - but I'm just not sure it would be all that much different from your Shavemac if variety is what you are after.

I have a Rooney 3/1 and an SR3122. Both are excellent brushes, however, I think the SR would be somewhat similar to your Shavemace. The Rooney would have a very different feel. If you are looking for something different in terms of feel and size, go with the Rooney. If you really like your Shavemac and want another similar style brush, go with the Saville Row.

If you've got a Shavemac, get the Rooney

I would have to agree with this. I have a similar Shavemac - the 177 and a Rooney 3/1 which make for a great rotation. The Shavemac is soft and luxurious, the Rooney 3, 1 is soft, but dense and scrubby. With these brushes you get a different experience with each one.
