Safety Razor Acquisition Thread.

Hey I will be up in Whidbey island Washington shortly on business. Does anyone know of any shave shops or antique stores nearby that I could score something memorable (like a vintage De razor)? It's island county-oak harbor.

How do I keep up with this thread!!

Went to an antique fair late. Arrived around 1pm but still managed to squeeze out a 1958 mint TV special. Happy camper.

here is another shot of the razor. I am not an expert by any means but I think it is an old type on a mismatched handle or maybe a NEW improved, im not sure. not a good photo, sorry.

I don't check on this thread enough, need to do something about that.

That's definitely an Old Type head, the New Improved baseplate would be flat instead of curved. That handle belongs to a Tech head, so definitely a mismatch; shouldn't effect the shave though, enjoy! My favorite handle for the Old Type head is the Durham Duplex; although, I've recently gotten a Single Ring that I think I'm going to enjoy.

I picked this one up off the bay because of the baseplate. I was needing a R&B Deluxe baseplate to go with my common bar flat shouldered handle. However, the markings on the baseplate are different thank the example on the mr-razor website. Any thoughts on this?

and mine: Gillette Diamond logo to the left side, Made IN U.S.A to the right side - quite a bit different than the mr-razor sample

I know this base plate from the NEW Lady DeLuxe

I recently bought an unused Gillette #58 which I can't justify doing anything other than putting on the BST. To compensate I picked up this rather handsome but shave worthy #59.

Thanks! Is there really any difference in the baseplate between the R&B Deluxe, the Lady Gillette Jade, and the NEW Deluxe Norfolk (Canada) besides the marking on the plate? In your images, they appear identical other than the markings.

Are you referring to the NEW patent marks? They started ca. mid-1932, and should apply equally to the deluxe variant: http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Category:Gillette_NEW_Razors has details on the patents, and http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Category:Gillette_NEW_Deluxe_Razors discusses two subtle variations of the NEW guard plate.

Yes, I was referring to the patent marks as the "different markings." Mine appears to be the 17mm version identified in the second link you posted. Thanks.

Just purchased two 1953 Gillette Super Speeds (40's style). What is considered to be the most aggressive Super Speed? The red tip? Ultimately I'd like to have one of every style just for collecting sake but my next razor I'd like to try something more aggressive.

I got a NEVER-USED (NOS?) gold Gillette Travel set that I have never seen before! I saw it and I just had to buy it. Notice on the chainthing it says 42 USA. Now I'm not sure if that means it's from 1942 but it might be.

I also got a gold Schick Injector that I haven't seen before. It came with the box and blade injector thing but it's empty and I don't know where I can find blades for it, help, anyone?
