Yes, Steve says that he uses the same blanks as Ralf Aust.

I wonder, do the blanks come in already ground, or does Steve grind them?

From my limited communication with Steve, I believe that he does the heat treatment and grinding.

That's the same steel Koraats are made from and I'm guessing the same source; I think there's only one independent drop forge in Solingen selling razor blanks.

I’d say he would have to do the final grinding and heat treat, if only because how would he stamp the tang of a hardened razor?

I don't have a huge collection of straight razors. I have three, but I have three good ones. I have an H. Diamond 1000 full hollow, a Thiers Issard singing full hollow, and this Colling. The Colling has replaced the others as my favorite razor to shave with. It isn't as expensive as the Thiers Issard, but its shaving and handling qualities are better than either. I don't say this lightly as both of the others are dearly loved. But, I really love this razor.

If it wasn't for my other SRs getting jealous and biting me, I too would shave only with my Colling SR.

The paua scales were on my list too but then I found the 7/8 already made.

I was interested in the paua scales and they are beautiful. But the olive wood spoke to me and I grabbed one of his already made razors from ebay. It came in Friday. Outstanding quality and shave ready.

That olive wood was very attractive. But I went with carbon fiber for now. Maybe next one Did you request the etching?

No, this razor was already made and had the etching on it. It’s not custom.
