Rubberset 400 Aluminum, first restoration In progress.

I just happened on an antique store open their first day, no sign up. Went in, browsed around they had about 8 shaving brushes, including this guy. Got it on the spot, I didn't even try to talk them down from the marked price of $6

The knot was yellow and greasy. Getting that out was the hardest part. Used a dremel, there's got to be an easier way. Probably spent half an hour on that. another 15 getting the head unscrewed. Sprayed liquid wrench, no dice. tried pipe wrenches, no dice. Dipped it in boiling water and it worked.

I used 400 grit sandpaper to start, spent about 15-20 minutes with that. Then 5 minutes each with 000 and 0000 steel wool to get it to this point. I'm sure it could shine more, but I'm not sure yet if I want it to. I could use polishing compound and the dremel.

Plan is to put a TGN knot in it when I'm feeling rich.

I'm thinking about a boar knot for this, more in keeping with it's original knot (but not neccessarily identical--just the best boar for this) I have also been enjoying my other fairly large, long handled boar for bowl lathering. So any thoughts about a perfect knot?

With the aluminum handle, this is probably one of the only brushes that I would have absolutely no concerns with steaming the knot out.
