Round 3 with the 2013 R41

After not a great start with my 2013 R41 (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/360904-Defeated-by-the-2013-R41?highlight=) I decided to give it another chance today, paired with a special 13mm UFO Tornado handle that arrived this week. Using the same prep as on my previous attempts & going back to one of my favourite Astra SPs on its second use, I achieved one of my best shaves ever.

There was no more tugging than I normally get with my FaTip & it certainly wasn't the same painful experience as before. I think that the much heavier & more grippy handle helped keep the razor head in contact with my face & I didn't experience the same skipping/bouncing that had occurred with the stock Muhle handle.

After the shave, my lower neck has never been smoother & I have no irritation at all. Unless I rub my face, I can't even tell that I shaved today. I am very impressed!

I agree that handle weight can make a big difference, my preference with this head is also a heavier handle than the original one. Glad it worked for you!

It's great to hear that you had such a good shave with the R41. That handle is beautiful. I worry that the UFO handles might be too thick for my hands. I have some nerve damage and the Muhle Grande handle made my hand hurt by the end of the shave. The regular Muhle handle, while light, is the right diameter for me.

I am also awaiting the delivery of a heavier handle to pair with my R41. I had a pretty rough first shave, but did manage to tame it a bit for the rest of the week, but I still have a few areas that need to finish healing. I am hoping the heavier handle and increased skill will help me learn to love the R41. Otherwise it's going to be a long term love affair with my Gillette New LC I'm afraid.

Shave number 2 with the R41 / UFO combo today. A most excellent, irritation free shave again. Yesterday was no fluke. However, I will say that, like my Tradere OC, the R41 head is not as efficient at shaving my top lip as a FaTip or a Gillette TTO.

Here is a comparison of relative handle thickness, there is very little difference in diameter between the Muhle & the Tornado, but quite a lot of weight difference!
