Role Over Feather SS and Let Dorko Take Over !

Greetings Gents,

A month or so ago I didn't think that it was possible to get a shave as close as my Feather SS with a conventional straight razor...not even with my DE slant bar and a Feather razor blade as far as that goes.

I purchased this Dorko at an antique store with some very small edge chipping. After sandpapering the chips out , then resetting the bevel with a 1K and a subsequent progression of 4k/8k, 12k stones plus CrOx and leather, I always got very nice, close DFS with no irritation..I was pleased with it.

I took it back to the 12k for a touch up the other day and followed with crOx .5 as usual but this time I decided to use the .25 micron diamond spray side of my paddle before stropping it.

Long story short, this Dorko must have some serious MOJO because I got a BBS/DFS that was equal to the closeness of any of my Feather SS shaves and much more comfortable as a bonus.

Nice! One day I will have a Dorko.....one day.

I have seen some big bucks on the table for a nice Dorko razor. ( albeit, usually NOS)
I was lucky as I was in the right place at the right time for this one and got it for my price.
The store owner hadn't even put it on display yet...if I hadn't asked if he had any razors I would have missed it...
Good luck finding one at a good price...they are out there.

Dorko's are usually very good shavers but my best shaves come from the Feather blades, although I don't like the SS models. Nice find!

Congrats on the beautiful razor. Diamond sprays are on my list.

The diamond spray apparently took that edge to just where I like it. I guess the only time I will need my Feather SS Japanese is when I'm traveling, now ? My next step will be to start doing some custom scales...got to go to Harbor Freight. Hey, its only money, right ?

Thanks,
It was my Feather SS Japanese that got me interested in straight razor shaving. It was my 'bridge' from safety razor shaving to conventional SR shaving, so to speak. For me, a Feather AC is wonderful shaver that I am quite fond of. I bought the Japanese style handle because I like the way my Tosuke shaves against the grain. For me, the drawback to the Feather Japanese style is that I have to take the blade out after each shave. I need to re-purpose something for an edge protector so I can keep it loaded in my dopp bag.

Congrats, one day I will have a Dorko.

I will keep the forum in mind when I am out looking in the wild. It may not be a NOS one but they are out there. I have got to where I don't leave home without a 20 X loupe...Its nice to look at the edges in person before buying. Pointing out minor flaws has given me some nice dickering power, too. I have my 'hook' baited for a nice Filarmonica..be glad when I can real one of those in.
