Recommendations for Gel / Pomade?

Hey guys. I've got curly hair that has that fuzzy "wire" look when it's dry. So for 20 years, I've been using gel to comb it back, or if short enough, just rub my hands and some gel through it to separate the curls. I never feel as though I've gotten the right stuff. I'm looking for the most chemical/paraben-free gel or pomade that actually works (and washes out). Any recommendations?

The Grease Shop on ebay sells all the pomades. Many of them are ethnic for afros so they'll really hold. The catch is they don't was out without special shampoo. Check it out. They even had a LE can of Murray's with President Obama on the can.

Easy. DAX. just get yourself some Dax, it's AMAZING.
Ok so I'm bald as a coot now but back in the day.... It can't be beat.

Great - thanks. I was tempted to buy some, but it was $20 in the local grocery store so I shied away and got the Crew gel for less. Next time I'll give the pomade a try.

Only seen their stuff on eaby. That is a cool website and they've got and a big inventory. No "Dapper Dan" or "Fop", though. George Clooney's brand from "O' Brother Where Art Though" Probably never did exist.

I can give another vote for the American Crew line. I have a jar each of the fiber, pomade, and sculpting paste. They all work great depending on what you're going for. Plus a little goes a long way, so they last quite a while.

+1 on American Crew products. I not only use their fiber, but also shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I used to use the Matte pomade because it left a more natural look without looking like a grease bag, but the fibre replaced it and looks just as good, fantastic fizz control.

You can also get America Crew products at Ulta stores. It's about the only mens product they stock. They have coupons in the paper and a discount card system that will mail you coupons occasionally. By the way, American Crew has a reasonable pre-shave oil.

Can I just through a shout out to Brylcreem? Nice stuff, inexpensive, smells decently and as the ad says, "a dab will do ya!"
I've used this for a number of years now and really like it.

During the last month I tried several brands of pomade and didn't like any. They all have a strong odor, including American Crew, which is expensive and smells and works the exact same way as Suave's Groom & Clean; the latter one is for five dollars and you can buy it at the drug store. I haven't tried DAX but I think it will very similar to Murray's. I hope someone corrects me if I am wrong about DAX. BTW: I have sticking to my gel which is made by Vital and is hard to find.

Op I have hair like yours. I bought the american crew pomade and I'm not convinced it's all that great. I still find myself using andother product in conjunction with the pomade.

Here's what else I use:

Been using the Tresemme European one, but they discontinued it. Wish I bought a couple of these just in case. Went to their regular pomade but wasn't the same. Like the really strong, super holds.

Thanks for the grease shop link. Can't say enough about B&B resources.
